Hey everyone, I was wondering if it would be safe to use a torch to burn off the old thermostat housing gasket? I have let it soak in some mineral spirit for a couple of hours and most of it is still on there after some scrubbing. Pissing me off this is whats holding me, if I had any $ I would just go and get a roloc wheel. Thanks for the help.

I got it off finally, some brute force with the razor blade did the trick, scratched it up some, but no significant gouges. I was going for as little damage as I could but that wasn't working. If it leaks I just go and get another one, I think I will probably get another next time anyway to save me some time and endless scraping. Do you know if they make reusable rubber gaskets for it, seems like that would be the way to go. Getting the reusable non collapsible valve cover gasket was one of the best things I did to my jeep after 3 cork ones. I installed it dry too.

Finally able to trace down my small oil leak. Seems to be from the seal between the oil filter adapter & the block. I've got the older-style adapter that's verticle/upside-down. Since I'm taking it off to replace o-rings, can I pull a newer horizontal-style adapter & mount on a renix block? Local jy has a couple xj's w/ horiz-style. From my multiple searches, I'm gonna need a 16mm socket for renix, & a t60 socket for horiz-style. Any help is greatly appreciated!
most headers I've seen for the AMC 242 cost an arm and a leg.
If you want long tube headers for a reasonable price: Amazon.com: PaceSetter 70-1192 Black Exhaust Header: Automotive
Thats the only one I've ever seen that fits the bill.

I've heard that they are pretty decent and if you look its almost an exact copy of a banks header.
Everything else worth buying is like $300+
Really any generic flow master or whatever hi-flow cat will work well. They're not all that different between them. Get something cheap from Summit.

also i looked at a magnaflow cat (supposedly OEM direct fit) yet looks much shorter than the cat that was on the vehical. considering my exhaust plans listed above, what should i be looking for in a cat? will length or manufacturer affect anything?
finally, my eyes are bleeding from reading dyno vs flow vs magna vs gibson threads. i decided its mostly opinion or preference. so dont worry, im not going to ask again, however if you feel there is a better option please make your case. I want it to sound like a truck, have good performance, and at a decent price. i feel the dynomax super turbo is the best all around choice.

Hi, no one has replied to my XJ 4lt Sport 1998 question about why it cuts out when offroad and working,it cuts out for 5 to 20 min depending on the ambient temp??
On the road, no problem unless pulling a trailer, connecting to the computer indicates nothing??

Hi there.......no one has replied to a previous question about my XJ 4lt Sport 1998 cutting out under load for between 5 to 25 minutes depending on ambient temp. and wind, computer indicates squat..nothing??
Much help needed as its awaste of time to have a 4x4 and not be able to go off road!!
