New to the Jeep family. Recently bought a 99 for $1200. Good deal, needs work....and A/C (not a priority).
I have a lot of rust issues. Underside is covered. A little on the rear panels. Also on the front seat posts. Floorboard is gonna need some work. I'm gonna spend a lot of money over the next year (a little at a time).
Safety first: I already replaced the headlamps (the reflective coating on the backside of the lights was corroded away. No issues. $30 fix.
Next issue: The guy I bought it from was from New York. The de-icing salt took its toll. My leaf springs are corroded, worn and inverted (probably the original stock springs). I've read about the Add A Leaf and Full replacement differences. I wanted to post a couple of pics to let the experts tell me how bad it really is. My rear end is about 2.5" lower than the front. I bottom out on every bump. Also where can I get this "PB" stuff ya'll keep talking about? Is that really what it's called?

Yuck. Depends on what you plan on doing. Add-A-Leaf is typically oriented at suspension lifts - if you're not planning on this stay away from some of the online stuff. Replacement springs are the best option but you will almost certainly break some bolts. If you want to take the cheaper route, take a look on here for threads about rebuilding the leaf spring backs, sometimes called "bastard packs" (often with extra springs from a Chevy S10). Sometimes you can pull those off without remaining that long spring that has the bushings in it. Really though I think all the stock rusty springs should be replaced lol.
PB Blaster is indeed it's real name - no idea where to get it down in the US but this is the can:

Thanks for the help odgreen89on35s, I got the seal in with a piece of wood. In the last few days; new ujoints, balanced driveshaft, new iac valve, new fan clutch, idler pulley, ac bypass pulley, belt, instrument cluster (so happy with that one, no more dummy lights), senders for the new cluster, axle shims and some more stuff I am sure I forgot. She is running better than she ever did in the last 7+ years, 213000+ miles and it can still light 'em up!
Next comes the 8.25 rebuild (howling), locked if funds are good. OME Shocks and then the stroker!

I've heard that the 2000 & 2001 XJ 4.0L heads are prone to cracking due to a bad casting, but would that be the case with a 2000 Grand Cherokee 4.0L head?
The reason I ask is because someone I know is giving me a free I6 from 2000 GC.
