I can also rev it up which makes it squeak and grind then stop.
This started happening about a month ago. Tuesday the alternator gave up. I replace it with a new one. Problem continues but alternator seems to be working when ever the squeak isn't going on and the sound of the squeak and grind noise sounds like it is coming from the other side.
Any help is appreciated thanks.
How old is your belt? Is it tensioned properly?

the belt is brand new and is a gator back or something like that. the tension is set at just about 1/4" movement with decent pressure.

This is going on my 98 xj which is a daily driver and only sees trails once or twice a month, however Il settle for 30-40k tread life since the look/traction is that much better. I can get the authorities for $400 (800mi on them) with ecco rims, or for $600 I can get brand new MT's. Whats your opinions?
I'd get new durra tracs, or mts. The authority's look like a toyo mt knockoff.

Add more tension and report back. Of it doesn't help. Id say your alternator is trash.

I appreciate it man. I didnt understand why tirerack.com didnt have this tire available, when most others were. I've checked the reviews for most a/t's and m/t's. I really want to get the dunlop radial mud rover because my first jeep, an 87' yj, had these tires on them when I purchased it. Even bald, they did awesome for my first wheeling experiences. Either way, going to the tire shop tomorrow after installing a lift to see which is cheaper, the duratracs or the rovers. Il let you know. Thanks again.
