Stock XJ Cherokee Tech. All XJ Non-modified/stock questions go hereXJ (84-01)
All OEM related XJ specific tech. Examples, no start, general maintenance or anything that's stock.
Spent yesterday painting the front and rear bumpers to match the body color on my '99 XJ. Went ahead and removed the stock fender flares and bumper caps for refinishing with Meguiar's Back to Black. When I pulled the fender flares, I did not remove the brackets from the fenders. I just pulled the flares. Now that I have to reinstall them, they will NOT fit back into the brackets. Is there some trick, or should I go ahead and remove the brackets, risking breaking the studs? Thanks in advance.
it's a lot easier with the brackets removed, they have little clips you have to slide it down into.
Is it bad to change the transfer case fluid in a high milage one like a transmission? I have 182k and I'm not sure if it's ever been done.
it is fine to change fluid in both. Just don't do a flush with a machine when changing the fluid in the transmission. Also, make sure you use the right fluid in the transmission, but the transfer case isn't too picky.

No. It is not.
I wish this "it's been too long to change the fluid" old wive's tale would die..........
If you crapped your pants for three days in a row, on the fourth day would you think to yourself "Better not change my shorts. I'll just keep crapping in them"?

The transfer cases were sold with basically every ATF out there. Synthetic is good since they make so much heat.

This is not accurate at all. Mopar ATF is the wrong formulation, and has been for at least thirty years. The Aisin-Warner (Toyota) automatic behind 4.0Ls is designed to work with GM-spec fluid.
Thank you vm.
yeah , i found the small print... it's kinda blurry, that's prob. why i didn't see it. :-D

Hi, I have a 2000 XJ... I just removed the doors... at first I was told it was legal as long as I had a 3 in lip to keep crap from falling out of it and atleast 2 mirrors... now I'm being told it's still illegal and I will get a large fine for it... anyone know the answer? I've tried looking on the dmv website and it's not very helpful
