Quote: OK, found a good deal on a AW4/231 that they say is from an 01 cherokee 140K, (already out with T/C attached) and my son's has 300K mi on his and is kinda growling louder than it should to me. Son's is a 01 sport and searched here and NAXJA but seems like lots for the early aw4 but not so much for the later 97 to 01 interchangeability .. What stickers/stampings on the trans for date of mfg or if it WILL fit my son's 01? "lady" says that the only markings on tranny is: 333-2x and it's about a 1.5hr drive one way. I'll have to look at my son's when he gets home from school tomorrow. Need to know kinda quick to plan a road trip like that. (I got a gazzillions of things going on, and need to fit it in) Thanks E

not cherokee related, but a question that has had me pondering for a bit.

Why are winches not centered on winch bumpers?

The mounting points/bolt holes are centered, but the electric motor sits off to one side

Thanks again.

...BUT how does one know if the trans is already out and on the ground with NO history 'per-se'? I've been a readin (noggin-pokin) and it looks like the plugs are different, and that may be a way. (gotta wait til he gets home to take pics of what he's got to have owner send me pics of their trans)
I mean, I've been at the 'yards' and have come up on a vehicle that the ______ is already out and just sitting there. I think to myself WOOHOO! Then it's replaced by- Wait a min.. What if it's the wrong part? IS it worth the effort to pull yours and put a questionable one in, only to find out that its' the wrong part..
It looked like it, measured like it, even smelled like it but NOW you have to pull it back out, borrow buddy's truck to take it back and figure out how to get to work for the next _____.

Don't mean to get all dramatic about it, but have been in this situation many times before, and think that theres' GOT TO BE some kind of visual marks, stamps, tags that 'should' designate what the heck it is by a chart or graph..

OK, here's another monkey wrench.. What about the Grand Cherokee 6cyl auto trans and transfer case?
I've scoured through the so called "What junk yard parts will swap" but no one says anything of the Grands?
I would think that it being the same 6cyl engine, it SHOULD BE the same trans and T-case. BUT I'm not reading it..

Thanks Errol

Absolutely. The 1998-2001 year has an extra Input Speed Sensor that previous models didn't have. See this thread for a reference photo: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthrea...1107809&page=2

Like XJwonders said they're completely different transmissions.

ZJs are usually in the junkyards because of failed transfer case (NV249) or transmission (42RE), or because they were driven into something.

XJs are usually in the junkyard because they rusted out.

Quote: hi every one,im new to this forums. i have a question perhaps someone can answer to it. anyways i just bought a 2000 cherokee 4.0 and it came with the service light on and the code p0306 ( cylinder 6 misfire ) so since is a new car to me i did a tune up plugs, filters, coil pack ext. reset code and after 50 miles of drive the light came back on w same code... what else can i do?

Welcome!

Probably best to start a new thread specifically about your problem. This one gets pretty jumbled and it's hard to do any follow up. Things get lost in the noise.

Don't recommend that. There are thousands of misfire threads. searching or posting here is exactly what he should do.

You need to check compression. If compression passes look at the injector.

sorry for vertical video, it didn't rotate when I started filming.

np242 transfer case

I had the rear axle on jack stands while doing this, in case it matters, but I still had the play when all wheels on the floor, so this isn't normal right? bad bearing? can it be changed with the transfer case still on the jeep? I will use this as an excuse to get an SYE if the TC has to be dropped, but I could save the money right now.

the u-joint is tight, so that's not where the play comes from. diff yoke is also tight.
