ah then u can just do one side and save the old one as spare with new studs later on of course

 

I think you had the right suggestion the first time, should always do brake parts in paired sets Every time I have tried to just do one side I got a pull to one side or the other when the brakes were applied and ended up having to match it up on the other side to eliminate the pull.

 

I had done plenty of one-side hub replacements on my jeeps and didn't have any problems... Brakes however must be always replaced in pairs

 

I confess that I haven't done one of these yet, but have done countless of other vehicles and had this issue most of the time, it tends to be especially noticeable when they get wet.

 

Yeah one bearing at a time is fine, worse that will happen is that the other one will wear out!

Brakes, yeah, entire axle should be done.

I have been kind of looking into one of those rear hatch tents for the XJ. Has anyone done this and are there any tips you could share? It would kind of be nice to keep bugs out and have a place to stand up and dress instead of having to do yoga in the back of the XJ to pull my pants on.

 

They may work well out there but here in Michigan the mosquito is or state bird and they don't seal well around the rear of Jeep. Your money ahead to just buy a good tent with all the extra money you'll save will pay for camping.

hey everyone finally got my block at the machine shop I am doing a 30 over bore on it. Anything i need to know? performance effects etc? also is there anything special about putting the engine back together? excited to get it back on the road.

 

Just a reminder to make sure the pistons are put onto the rods so that the oil squirt holes are on the correct side and aim your ring gaps correctly before pushing them in the holes.

The book should have the proper images for you. Most important thing is the squirt holes. They have to correspond with the direction of engine rotation or they will not work like they are supposed to and the pistons will overheat and maybe even fry later on. It is important that they squirt oil into the underneath of the pistons at the right timing while it is running to help cool them.


To be honest, I can't remember if these piston pins just slide through or if they have to be pressed into the rods. If you need to have these pressed on by someone else double check them for sure before putting it together.
