Well if that's your approach, you're in luck. These were made in such numbers that they're everwhere. For the most part, things are cheap, plentiful, and easy to work on (comparatively speaking). Except for the constantly changing fastener types... which I do appreciate about my VW (everything is metric!)
What I mean by that is serious problems can be dealt with in a cheap manner - excluding rust. Even the "worst" problem, a cracked head in a 2000+ XJ, can be dealt with in a simple way. All XJ engine blocks are compatible. Heads swap around fine. If you had a totally blown 4.0L, just drop one in from any ZJ Grand Cherokee or XJ Cherokee. Rest of the driveline is sort of like that too. The XJ cooling system is pretty marginal so make that a high priority to proactively address, as chances are a lot of it is original. Electrical is the next weakness, in fact I think a lot of 1987-1990 "Renix" models are dumped because electrical issues weren't sorted out.
Honestly if you don't have rust and can turn your own wrenches there really isn't a problem, in my opinion. About 80% of the labour I've put into my Jeep has been rust-related.

Why is the brake booster arm so hard to get onto the pedal?
I can't for the life of me get it to seat all the way and I can't fit a hammer or channel locks up in there. I tried it with the booster loose and that's how j got it started but it won't go on all the way.
Any tips/tricks?

Hmmm. No. Lol. Mine looks nothing like that. I believe that's older than mine I have a 91. Its just got a little "stud" that the hole in the booster arm slides over. Then there's a clip that holds it on. Real simple, I just can't get it to fit on there. I also couldn't see for **** to get any kind of tool on it so I'll try at it again tomorrow.
i'm new to the forums and honestly new to a forum in general. i have a 98' 2x4 Cherokee classic that's stock. i'm in need of shocks being that the factory ones are on it's last legs. i get that some shocks may change the ride height but a small lift is what i want to avoid. this jeep most likely will never see offroad pretty much strictly road.
or maybe their a post of this question already if i like so sort of direction.
thank for the help, i appreciate it.
