Hi @ all,

I want to buy a XJ and I would like to know about common issues that are expensive to fix. I'm not interested in interior problem because most of it is gonna go either or.
Mainly motor, transmission and the other stuff under the hood :-)

Every helpful answer is apreciated.

If you find any misspelled words, you can keep em. :-)

Doesn't look bad. Take picture from the side. Make sure it can take hits from branches etc.

All the things you're concerned about are not issues, depending on exactly what you get.

A/c driveshaft? Are you referring to the a/c compressor clutch? If so it can be a pain to do, especially while it's still in the vehicle

He's from the other side of the Atlantic where they have the 2.5 diesel engine.

I assumed as much when he said air con. Maybe if we had a picture of what he is referring to more help could be offered

Why is the brake booster arm so hard to get onto the pedal?

I can't for the life of me get it to seat all the way and I can't fit a hammer or channel locks up in there. I tried it with the booster loose and that's how j got it started but it won't go on all the way.

Any tips/tricks?

Sorry to resurrect this question (from 4 months ago), but if anyone knows of one, other than the tailbone or the stock carrier, which I don't trust to hold larger tires and gas.

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean with "are not issues"? I wanted to know if there is anything out of the ordinary that I should pay attention to while checking a possible buy out?
Thanks for the answers

Hey mikeythrash, where do you live? If it's not to far I'm interested

Depends. You're in Phoenix so rustless Jeeps are abundant, which rules out the number one XJ killer. How handy are you? Some people may consider certain oil leaks a deal breaker just on account of the labour required to fix them... which is a non-issue if you can turn a wrench and follow a guide book.

I would say I'm pretty handy. I'm an Industrial Mechanic. I'm not scared about little fixes.
I just don't wanna buy a money pit. I want to have a reliable recreational vehicle. All the unnecessary thing are gonna get ripped out (as far as I know, the XJ doesn't have a lot those) and useful stuff will be upgraded. So the plan.
