When I replaced my radiator I had to butcher the 16 year old quick disconnect, and used band clamps and ATF-safe hose and some male to male connectors.

Yes, that's what I'm wondering. The disconnect is in great shape, I'm just thinking "Why have it there at all"? And you've never had any leaking issues?

It took me a few minutes to really dial in the clamps, but I monitor it and its great. Just make sure to get ATF hose, not fuel hose. Standard band clamps did it just fine.

They are known to leak, same with the connections at transmission (no problems on my 96 however).
Speculation says the metal lines are to help dissipate heat.

The droplet was hanging right at the crimp on the rubber hose where it turns into the long metal one going back to the trans. Disconnect area is clean and fine. Just figured if I can do away with the entire disconnect, why not?

Thanks for your help!

I got a different question for ya. I know this isnt necessarily an xj question but it seems like it could be. On my dad's jeepster/cj build we got some like new 38.5/15/15 gumbo monster mudders for a good price. We put them on and they look awesome! But now I just found out the inside of the wheel rubs on the brake caliper. These are just standard gm truck disc bakes on a Dana 44 and a Corp 14. Has anyone ever run into a problem like this? Know of any more low profile calipers? They are just barely dragging so could I maybe just shave a few hairs off the top of the caliper? I just don't want to tell him to go buy new set of $2000 tires because you need a .5" bigger wheel! Thanks guys!

Hey everyone, I could really use some help! I have a no crank situation here that I can't figure out...

If the key is turned to the "Run" position all of the gauges come live and the car dings at me as if all is well. As soon as I turn the key to "Start" the whole vehicle goes dead- no lights, no power locks, no gauges, nothing! If I wait a few minutes I can repeat the process- turn the key to "Run" and everything is normal; turn the car to "Start" and the entire car goes completely dead.

In an attempt to fix this I've installed a brand new battery and starter. I don't have a clue what's going on.

Please Help! Any input is greatly appreciated.

Put her in Neutral before you try to start it. It sounds like your Neutral Safety Switch.

If that doesn't help, it's likely your starter relay.

Hi all!!! First post here. I have read up to page 1451 of this thread so far and haven't come across what I am looking for yet. I would really like to get this done, so here it goes. I have a 96 2 door sport manual trans and am looking to install cruise control. I am having trouble finding the correct clock spring for it. I have two possible part numbers so I am really confused now. They are 4688655 and 56007621. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't have your answer for the part # but maybe some of these could be some help to you?

It's not much but maybe some of that could help you. Also I suggest looking for someone selling one on here. Or maybe someone thats parting out their xj might be able to hook you up. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to CF! You need the 2nd part # for a '96. The 1st # is for a '95.

Default Front end feels sloppy

I have a 1998 xj that is bone stock with 110k. Lately I have noticed that the steering feels sloppy and the front suspension feels loose. I was wondering if it is common for the various front end bushings to be replaced at this age and mileage. Thanks for any info.
