XJ Ask the Question Thread
The ones in the tank are usually just a screen to strain out the big stuff.
It will certainly cause more work on the pump if it is dirty.
Wires, cap, rotor (and probably plugs, too!) all appeared to be AMC original on mine when I bought it at 76K miles.
Maybe I should have tried to get a few more miles out of them

Edit: now I've suddenly got a chirping noise. It's got to be somewhere in the serpentine belt system

I wire brushed the rust out, fixed the two small holes with Liquid Steel (any auto parts & Home Depot) .Used Por-15(NAPA stores)then went over that with truck bed liner.---Water proved now.
Interesting ...
I replaced the cap and rotor a few weeks ago.
The noise almost sounds like it's coming from the thermostat housing, but that doesn't make sense so it could be the water pump but I don't recall a water pump ever making a chirp like that. I didn't even notice it from inside the car just now driving to the barn and back - I wonder if the belt is just reacting to changing humidity ???
