1st time on any type of Forum. So Hello! I thought I'd start with a problem I'm having. I just purchased a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport for my daughter that just got her license in a private sale. I just fixed the power window switch(resoldered switch/windows could only be used from the drivers door) & repaired the broken wire to the speaker. I had the negative battery terminal disconnected because I couldnt find the fuse to turn off all the door/domb lights. I then started to troubleshoot the front passenger side speaker. I then reconnected the battery so I can have power to the radio, but it only stayed on for a minute & I couldn't get the Jeep started. A neighbor had a new battery & I was able to start the Jeep. Do I have a bad Battery? It's only about a year old said the last owner or do I have another problem. What voltage should the alternator be charging at? I tried to search this site & I'm getting scared of what the problem might be. In adddition to this, I will search later but found a leak that is collecting water behind the driver's side rear seat.

Longest long shot question ever.

I had the engine off with the radio on and it touched the dipstick and sparks went flying. (The red one)
Also are there any side mirrors we can swap on our Jeeps? I wanna add a mirror so i can see the tires, but the mirrors really arent big enough...

It looks like an old amp power wire that is still hooked up and apparently has a bare spot in it... Not good. Are there any red wires on your battery or fuse box?

Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the forum!
If the Jeep ran fine with your neighbors battery you either have a dead one or a poor connection. Buildup of corrosion on the terminals, posts, and even up into the cable itself can cause that sort of behaviour.
Voltage-wise, a good battery I've seen will hang slightly over 12V and then drop to maybe 11.8V over a few minutes after being disconnected from a charging source. While charging, system voltage should range from 13.8V to 14.2V
