Well unless you used SAE60 the sending unit is probably filthy or you knocked it with the new filter.

Long block = just the engine. Use nothing else from the donor.

I went bak and re-read. Are you trying to put a '96 AW4 transmission in a '99 too? That poses a lot more of a challenge.

Probably bumped the sender with the oil filter wrench.

If that's what it is then yes. It's not a necessity just has less miles

Then don't. Earlier AW4s are not bolt on to '98+ XJs. Yours will last a long time if you take care of it (fluid changes and an aux cooler)

I have a yj motor in mine, the oil filter sits perpendicular to the unibody rail. Right next to the motor mount. Problem I have is when the engine torques in the mount my filter hits it and dents it. Where is the sender?

Why do I need one? How would it go on with the male threads that fit the filter

Why? Because your oil filter is getting smashed by the motor mounts!!!

Go grab one at the JY.

People do it all the time to replace their o-rings.

All I can say is putting the adapter on will be easier than being towed outta the woods due to a punctured oil filter.......

T60.

Or, get an adapter off an earlier one that uses a 5/8" socket.

Or it may be a 14mm hex key. I had to use a 14mm outer diameter coupling for the two OFAs I've done. I keep it in the tool bag now.
Insert the coupling, put a socket on it, and turn it like a bolt. It's a bear to break the factory thread locker, but it's very easy once you do.

Thanks. The wiring harness is the same I'm guessing.. The donor motor got the wiring cut.
