Well, I fixed the voltage problem by tracing the black wire with the yellow stripe all through the engine. And I got that wire to read 5 to 6 volts everywhere it went, However, now when I plug the wiring harness back into the computer, I get zero volts again!? What could be doing that?

 

Where's the switch in the hatch? I have a '95. I never seen a switch around there

Hey everyone, this weekend I was driving around town in my 2000 cherokee sport 2wd 4.0L and my jeep started to feel very slugish. I didnt have the acceleration that it normally has and when I was driving down the road and let my foot off the gas it slowed down a lot faster than normal. I pulled over and check all my fluids and eveything was find for the motor oil and the trans oil. The motor never got hot at all either. I just got the jeep about a month ago now and it only has 35k on it. I called the tow truck to prevent any damage and got it towed to a shop where I should be hearing from today but wanted to get your imput on it. Any suggestions to what it is?

I don't quite nderstand what you said you were doing in your previous post:

The "Black wire with a Yellow tracer is actually a Brown/Yellow tracer wire, which is the VSS Sensor Ground, not the 5 volt supply voltage.

What computer are you referring to, the PCM? If so, why did you have the PCM connector unplugged?

Here's a diagram of the VSS circuit and a pinout of the VSS connector.

You can see in this data that the 5 volt supply is from pin cavity 1 of the connector (Violet/Orange tracer wire). The VSS Ground is pin cavity 2 of the connector (Brown/Yellow tracer wire). And the VSS Signal is pin cavity 3 (White/Orange tracer wire).

Hope this helps you understand the VSS circuit.

Morning everyone. Who would be interested in playing a rousing game of "What is this thing that fell out from underneath my Jeep?"

Context: I have not done any work on my 2001 XJ Classic since I got it back to Nov. 2012. I put in some steering fluid the other day to silence the pump but no screws, bolts or nuts were removed. The next day I heard a nasty noise coming from the front driver side of the engine compartment. I stopped at a stop light, felt something shift then when I stopped in the nearest parking lot this heatshield looking thing fell out from the front driver's wheel well. Are the internals of a front Dana 44 the same as a rear Dana 44? Carrier, R&P, etc

+1 that's a piece of heat shielding. Look forward to a warm floor on the passenger side in the near future

 

93% sure yes as long as they're "standard rotation" High Pinion front axles will have reverse cut gears.
