Today my jeep started and ran fine, but when I went to start it 10 minutes after shutting it off it won't start. It cranks and cranks and cranks. The only time it seems to want to try to start is when carb fluid was sprayed in the throttle body, but even then it was't very close to starting.

Good spark, can hear the fuel going through the injectors, fuses are all good, new TPS, new NSS.

Not sure what to check first?

There's carb CLEANER and starting FLUID. 2 different things.

Which did you spray in there? If carb CLEANER, don't expect it to wanna start.

Lol. I guess my dad is retarded. When I asked he said "that'll work, same thing."

Jackass. I'll try starting fluid tomorrow instead, but why would it not want to start now? I replaced the TPS after it wouldn't start because I was getting rpm jumps at highway speeds.

Where did it come from? Could be gear oil from the rear diff.

The tranny will vent fluid when overheated. Fluid usually turns brown when burnt. Gear oil would be black.
Use a paper towel to wick up some fluid for investigation. Sniff to identify but don't taste.
Look at and sniff what comes out on the tranny dipstick. Here the sniff test is for a burnt smell. Compare to new fluid if needed.
Report back...

Question for all: Re-gear '99 XJ (D30/C8.25) to 3.55 from 3.07 or axle swap?

Keep in mind an axle swap would have a huge learning curve for me (meaning I've never done one before).

Regarding remanufactured transfer cases. If you decide to go that route, this outfit has them for $5-$600. With HD chain, without the SYE.
Also re-man transmissions.

Is there a way to test the CPS?
