I put in new hubs and all seals ($150?), swapped my axle shafts with new U joints already in 'em ($25), and of course cleaned and painted. Outside of the diffs it's almost like two new axles for less than the cost of doing gears... and not replacing or refreshing anything else.

Also worth mentioning I have no garage and the XJ is my daily driver so downtime was just to swap them. The front axle sucked on account of getting the control arms bolted up, I did need a hand for that.
The cold Canadian air wasn't an issue!!!!!!!

Nah this was in September. Issue in these parts isn't really the cold anyway... this quarter of the continent any bare metal exposed to the atmosphere will instantly rust.

What's the best way to flush my current tranny cooler of fluid so it can be repurposed for a steering cooler?

Power steering fluid and ATF that we use isn't too dissimilar, I'd just be worried that it's free of contaminants

I didnt know if one was acidic and the other was basic and they wouldnt like each other. I'll clean what i can and then install it back.

I'd flush it with water and then run some PS fluid through it before hooking it up. I've never actually done it, though.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. Power steering fluid and atf are essentially the same fluid. Ford even uses atf for their power steering.

Took a second look at my hood latch today and sprayed/worked more pb blaster into it. There seems to be about an inch or so of play on the drivers side corner of the hood when it is closed ie. i can push it all the way down to where it should be (flush with rest of front end) but then it pops up about a half inch or an inch.

Anyone every replace these? looks like it only has one bolt that holds it on
