I posted about this before, but I'm about to start parts hunting. My muffler melted a tarp I had on the rear floor. I'm going to look for a smaller muffler and a heat resistant pad (what's it called?) to put on the floor. Should I wrap the muffler in some heat tape to Keep it from radiating? I want this **** to be fixed and done with after this time.
I have a FM 40, anyone have a muffler to recommend that is physically smaller? Not a glass pack.

Need electrical help, a couple issues, probably all related.
1) Overhead console courtesy lights will not turn off, have to pull the dome light fuse. Intermittent problem. I think but am not 100% sure it corresponds with dash lights not working.
2) Dash lights quit working.
3) GAUGES fuse 7.5 gets very hot, but does not blow. Just now melted apart! Evidence that this problem was there when I got the Jeep as the one I had pulled out was slightly heat disformed.
4) Dome light fuse gets hot also without blowing.
I recently replaced the headllight switch, and at the time it showed a slight current on the ground side of the dome light circuit.
I've put in a new stereo, but currently have it completely removed to eliminate that as a contributing cause. (Incidentally, radio does not work when dome light fuse is pulled - wiring all looks original?)
I have updated/fixed grounds: dipstick, engine block, dash, fan that p.o wired into ignition of fuse block (always on), battery connections.
Obviously there is a short or ground issue somewhere - where do I go now?

What year is it? Has the headliner been redone? Pull the visors and make sure nobody ran a screw through the wires, check rear light under headliner for shorts, check all your door pin switches,

Headliner redone by me, problems started before.
No screws through wires. Sun visor wire currently not hooked up (still have to recover them before reinstalling)
Rear light replaced as old one was rusty.
Haven't checked door pins yet.

Door pins checked and working. No door pin switch on front passenger door, lights do not come on when that door is opened. Can't even see how to access behind there. Would it be the black and black/white stripe wires going into a grommet behind the kick panel?
My Check Engine Light has been on for months. I don't drive much because I have building my Jeep just for my off road trips.
I have had my Jeep into the mechanic and his code reader does not come up with any codes. I have an Ultra Gauge and it shows no codes.
I read about checking the ground point inside the cab.
Where exactly would I look to find the ground on my 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport.

Just asking obvious questions first...rear hatch fully closed? I felt like a dumba$s troubleshooting the same issue. Hatch open light was inop.
One of the trigger wires is grounded they go from the switch to the lights, pull the switches out and clean and check the out

Rear hatch fully closed. The thing is is that it just happened today. Now that it's so close to being done all these weird electrical issues are popping up
