Start with a tuneup. It's not "adjustable". These engines run rich when something is wrong. Fresh spark plugs, wires, distributor rotor and cap, air filter, and check all vacuum lines for leaks. Pay extra attention to the one on the throttle body to MAP sensor on the firewall and the fuel pressure regulator that sits at the front of the fuel rail.

Also when I have the HVAC set to hot and on vent it's Luke warm air but when I turn on bi-level is warmer.
Have you verified that the temperature is even accurate? That gauge uses a separate sending unit located at the back of the head, notorious for going out.

No I have not replaced the sensor but it was reading higher a few weeks back when it had a bad thermostat and was overheating at times

But I'm in the middle of removing the old alternator and one of the small 7mm nuts have become stuck on there and for the life of me I can't remove it. After pb blaster and some muscle it has since become stripped. Has anyone dealt with that before? There is not a lot of playroom in there to get it off using other methods. At least that I have thought of.
I'm not sure how much bigger yours is, but I did a 136a alternator out of a durango and did a bit of grinding on the mount but it was very minimal and didn't take me very long.

Have you tried back flushing the heater core? That may get you a little more heat, though it doesn't sound like the root of your problem. It took my luke warm system to a normal temp. Best part is it's free! Provided you have a garden hose.

It won't even get to operating temp, sits at 150-160 all the time. Has a new 195° stat too

What brand stat?

Are both heater hoses at the firewall the same temp?

Just got done removing ALL the carpet out of the jeep. Against the lower part of the firewall at the front of the footwells is a black rubber mat w/ some non-dense spongy foam behind it... can't quite figure out how to pull that out. Anyone know if it's screw or bolted in somewhere?

I just noticed that when I'm outside of the jeep with it idling, I can gear the fuel pump. It's kind of loud. Sometimes I can hear it from the inside as well. Is it time to look for a new pump?

I've got a question about a price on some parts I found locally. Hopefully this is tech-related enough.

On Craigslist I found a set of rear leaf springs from a 2000 Sport with 85,000 miles on them for $60. The same guy is also selling a Pro comp 2" add-a-leaf set and is asking $30. I was going to offer him something lower for the leaves and AAL.

I'm looking for a very cheap way to get a couple of extra inches under my XJ. My XJ has 243,xxx miles on it and the leaves look pretty flat. Should I jump on this deal?

Not a fan of add-a-leafs myself, they tend to flatten out quickly, try and locate a full pack, or just build yourself a bastard pack to obtain the lift you want, better yet, do a shackle relocation from HD, get some lift and fix the shackle angle that Jeep screwed up from the factory.

+1 spending money on used AAL is not wise. Bastard pack is a great option, if your XJ is your DD buy the used springs for the main leafs, then do the bastard pack with them outside of your Jeep, take all the time in the world

Thanks! I'm going for as close to a 2" lift as possible. After a little searching I noticed it is a bit of a trial and error process. Guess I'll start my S10/Dakota leaf search. Theres gotta be some combo that yields a 2" gain over stock.
