Okay if you guys could answer some questions and fill me in on what I'm missing or things ill need that would be great.
I have 01 cherokee sport with a chrysler 825 rear end and a low pinion d30 up front, not sure what gears but its and auto tranny. Running a 3.5 inch lift with 31s and a tc drop.
My plans are as follows, 6.5 inch rc longarm kit with a sye, high pinion d30 front axle, aussie locker in the front and haven't decided about the back. My plan is to run 33s with 4.10 gears.
What should I look for when I'm trying to find the front axle? And am I going to run into any problems using the 4.10s with the 8.25? Anything else I'm missing completely?

The help is greatly appreciated guys

Holy cow Offroad Nut. That was exactly it. I removed everything looked and the intake wasn't in the right position. Fixed it, started and running like a dream. Thank you very much. I've been talking to mechanics and none of them even thought of that. They were telling me to throw parts at it. Again thank you!!

You probably have 3.55 gears right now. Try to find a front axle from a 97 or 98, they are high pinion and have the stronger u-joints compared to the older HP fronts, and if you can find one out of a 4 cyl. 5 speed xj you'll be golden ( they come with 4.10s stock). You will probably have to get the higher carrier for the front to run 4.10s in it if you can't find a 4 cyl. manual. And with that auto the best gear to run with 33s is 4.56.

I would look into getting better shocks than the RC ones, they suck.

For the SYE if you have an np231 get an HD SYE, most of the ones out there are pretty good. PORC is a great company. If you have an np242 you're gonna have to get a hack n tap SYE, I bought mine from Iron Rock Offroad, just because it was the best deal for me. But it seems like a pretty nice hack n tap. I think RE makes one too. Try to stay away from the Tom Wood's hack n taps, they are Waaayyy expensive.

Okay so when I'm looking for the d30 should I look at a junkyard or should I find one off a forum or something? How much should I be looking to pay?
My plan is just to get the jeep running smooth at 6.5 then ill look at new shocks and whatnot but thanks for the tip on the 5 speed front ends that will save me some money for the time being.
As far as the sye goes I don't really know what I'm getting into there ill have to double check when I get home later on which tc I have. What is a hack n tap sye?

Either or. Probably between $75 and $150. $150 is the highest I would go no matter what with a stock D30.

A hack n Tap SYE is where you "hack" off the end of the output shaft on the tcase, then tap it and bolt a yoke on. The Normal SYE's you have to rip the tcase apart and install a new shorter output shaft. The HD SYE's are slightly stronger than the hack n taps too.

Default 1996 cherokee sport 4.0 HO auto/ 231 j 1 piece tail?

very 1st comment on this site. My computer skills are coming along.please redirect me if necessary.
#1 leaking rear seal-T case. 231 j. I have proper seal,I have oil slinger. Issue #2 I have rear housing that doesn't match the directions. So what? #3 there is a retaining ring on the shaft that does not seem it will allow my seal to seat. I know it was there AFTER removing old seal.I don't see how I could have removed the old seal past it. I have studied these forums on proceedure prior too and exploded views of 231 j's , none yet show this particular tail section.
constructive advice welcome!

OK so i have a 2001 with a mystery thud. It can happen at two different times either when the car settles back after i have completely stopped or if i take my foot off the brake and let the car roll a few feet. If i shift into neutral before i stop i don't get any thud at all. All my u joints are good and i greased the slip joints in both drive shafts. I guess it could be my brakes hanging up? But i'm starting to think it is a problem with the tranny because i dont get a thud if i shift into neutral before i stop.

this is a great thread by the way.

Default rear end unlevel???

I just posted this on the forum but realized this might be a better place for it. Sorry for the double post!

So I just noticed today that the heap is sitting lower on the passenger side in the rear. Crawled up underneath and nothing is obviously broken (at least that I can see). It's off by about 2 inches. I haven't felt anything strange driving it, but it could have been like this for a while and I just didn't notice it.

Any thoughts???

unbolt cross member and drop the tc attached to the tranny as far as you can go. you then have more then enough access with some extensions

My jeep was exactly like that only the driverside was the side that was lower, and when I dropped the rear axle for the lift my driver side leaf spring was snapped. It was the eyelet around the bushing that was snapped, so I couldn't tell from just looking at it while it was still bolted up.
