See now that's what I was thinking. Yea it works, but is it really the right torque... kinda pointless if its just a noisy ratchet.

I personally have never tried one. Iv heard good and bad. About 50-50 each. Most cheaper winches internals are all the same. I planned to buy one before i sold my winch bumper awhile back.

Yep. Once it breaks (not if, when) you cant buy replacement parts so you're SOL.

But you can return it and get a brand new one. Thats what a warranty is for.

A harbor freight winch isnt that much cheaper than some better name brand winches. Recovery gear isnt something i would skimp out on. You can get an xrc8 for 300 bucks.

I can get the 12k for under 250 out the door. It seems significantly lower than what others are selling for.

Just becasue your wife works there doesnt mean you have to love the stuff... If you are going to fight to the death defend HF then go for it. There are just certain things im not going to buy from there.

Correct. I do NOT love all of their stuff. Indeed they have some very shtiy items. Also for me I would be using a winch MAYBE 1-2 times a year i think itd be fine. For someone who wheels every single weekend doing moderate + trails yeah dont skimp. That should be a no brainer for anyone.

I personally would never want a winch to give out no matter how long i've had it.. but this is not the place for this conversation.

Any tricks or tips to remove the dust shield off of the bell housing? I have all bolts removed from it except the one that is blocked by the exhaust. I can pivot and twist it but it is still on there good. I don't want to bend it.
