I am an extreme newbie so try and handle this question if its stupid
I have this noise coming from my engine, from what I can tell when I idle. The best way to descibe the noise is to compare it to an old bicycle being ridden with no oil on gears/chain, but in pulses. I belive this noise to be coming from my fan, as first off thats where I traced the sound to, second when the engine revs up the noise disapears, and third it seems as if my fan is not spinning true (you can see it wobble a bit at the base of the blades.)
I have a '97 Grand Limited, and I believe the fan is mechanical as it gets its power from the belt. My belt is new, and not loose. As well, unless its bad timing, I have noticed this noise since cold weather smashed my city...right now its -21f without wind chill.
My friend was saying its simply a matter of tightening bolts? However, I do not believe it to be this simple as I heard somthing about a fan clutch which quite frankly I know nothing of.
Any help would be appreciated as from what I understand, fan "issues" can be dangerous due to the speed they spin. I really dont feel like paying my jeep dealer $120 to quess what this is, and then make me fix a bunch of other ***** not needed.
Thanks for any help in advance!

The only jeep that can fit seven people is the Commander. Unfortunately it has the 3.7L V6, but you can find them with the 4.7L Magnum or the 5.7L Hemi.

It's probably lifter tap - it is common, especially on higher mileage and older engines. It's usually caused by partially blocked oil passages or incorrect weight oil. Use 5w-30 if you are not already and see if it improves. I would not be worried about it unless it turns into a loud knocking.

The cylinder looking thing T-d off the where the oil filter screws in is the oil pressure sending unit.

That would be the fitting that the oil pressure sending unit screws in to. Also explains the oil leaking down the side of the block. Is your oil gauge working?
my oil is going into my air filter. When I first bought the jeep, I replaced all the vac lines, all tubing and still have oil going into the air filter. Could it be the oil filter housing, bypass stopped up?

Hey i've got a budget of about 4 grand to spend on an offroading jeep, I'll be using it alot in the snow in the winter so it has to be primed for that. i was thinking about getting an early 90s cherokee with a lift kit and some 33-34 inch tires, but I don't actually know anything about this and don't want to spend the money without some sort of research beforehand.
I'm assuming i should get an XJ
is there any particular year i should/shouldn't buy?
how much does it cost to buy/install a decent lift kit?
what else would be required to make sure the jeep will be ready for offroading/snow?
would it be better to buy a jeep with a lift kit already installed? or should I not trust craigslist and get/install my own?
any other advice you might think I need?

Hey, I have a 1988 Cherokee with the 242 AMC transfer case with no actuator in the front axle so its engaged in the transfer case for 4 wheel drive, I'm curious to know if that qualifies as a full time 4 wheel drive? I am looking to put a locker in the front axle (dana 30) but I've read that lockers are not intended for axles unless unlocked and at free spin?? I think thats how I understood it haha

I have an electrical issue as of right now also, my running lights and turn signals are blowing the fuse after 5 minutes of turning them on , but then sometimes I can leave them on in the garage just sitting there and they seem to stay on for 20-30 minutes. I have ran down wires ( no carpet and removed the plastic panels from front to rear) and have found not scored burnt or cut wires. Would this possibly be an issue with my fuse panel or is there anything else I can look into to find the source of this issue. Thanks

hey guys, i have a leaking rear axle seal at the hub, just wondering is it a big job to fix? Is there any tricky bits to doing it, ie, is the bearing a ***** to get off or around...im not mechanically minded at all, so far ive been told that its a matter of taking off the brakes and that, and then stripping down to the bearing and changing out the seal.....what am i missing?????
