Yes the KS5250 are good for the doors.

The head unit does make a difference but mainly depends on what you listen to most? AM/cassette? FM/XM? CD/MP3? If you like it old school then don't bother upgrading the radio. If you want new features and such upgrading the head unit will improve your experience. If you want to really get going I would invest in a 4 channel amp and a small sub woofer system.

The speakers are only going to sound as good as the signal pushing them. An amplifier can greatly increase the signal amplitude without distorting. It also helps the head unit by not making it work so hard to push the signal.
The back speakers are literally fitting into the hole and screwed into my cieling

You have a headliner like this?

There are mounts behind the speaker covers. You can fit spacers behind a speaker baffle that will push the speaker out enough for you to fit your cover.

No worries

  1. The speakers are held in with molded clips which are part of the headliner.
  2. What you can do is to remove the speaker screws that are there now
  3. Remove the speaker
  4. put the speaker in a speaker baffle
  5. install the screws back on the new speaker pod
  6. using washers or a spacer mount your pod back in the headliner.

What the spacers do is to make the speaker sit further out so you can snap on the cover. The OEM cover is designed to snap into the headliner not over the speaker like many newer speakers.
