What steering set ups is everyone running? Looking to upgrade mine and am looking for suggestions. I've looked at a number of kits but still can't decide. 6.5" lift and looking for OTK or crossover.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just changed the switch and now the gauge needle went extreme right. When I crank it, it runs fine, but I only let it run for about 30 seconds.

You change the filter recently?

I just had the oil changed yesterday. It looked syrupy. When I replaced the oil pressure switch, it looked like they broke it when they put the new filter on.

Do yourself a big favor, and change your own oil. It's quick and easy and nobody cares more about it being done right than you.

Would the logical next step be to change the oil pump?

Fluid was dirty and old as I just bought the jeep and the previous owner just drove it into the ground. It will go through all the gears 1,2,3,od fine. But there isnt reverse or neutral. So I park where I can get out easy. Its almost like the linkage is out of adjustment.I have to cram it in park to get the keys out???

You replaced the oil pressure sensor? Did you replace it with a sensor for full gauges or for idiot lights? If you installed a sensor for a gauge cluster with idiot lights, the needle will peg full.

Yes, I just replaced it with the one for idiot lights from the factory.

Cherokees have two options for gauges. You can either have full, measured gauges...or idiot lights like this picture:

If your Jeep has full gauges, you need to use the full gauge oil pressure sending unit. If you use the idiot light sender, it will only trigger on/off, and your gauge will be far left or far right.

They should ask which one you need at an auto parts store. Around here, Advance Auto is the place to go.

Did fine most of the way home, then started going up a hill and she seemed like she was hesitating and like it wouldn't take the gas... When I started it tonight, seemed mostly fine however the rpms seemed to noticeably vary and the engine shook and shimmied here and there. Throttle response seems fairly good... I haven't done whole lot yet to diagnose it. Just wanted to get opinions and start with the most likely cause.
I don't know anything about the TBIs, but in a generic engine sense I'd make sure your tuneup hardware was good and then start looking at fuel delivery, maybe you lost pressure. Is there a fuel filter to change?

Here's some information on the cracked heads: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/00-...erview-118922/ 1998 doesn't have the 0331 but some of that is still relevant. What you're looking for is a milky substance. It could show up on the dipstick but really the best way to look is just change your oil. If you don't have any contamination in your old oil then that's a good thing
