XJ Ask the Question Thread
this is not my jeep,its a friends,91-4.0-auto,new plugs wires rotor cap last year.starts right up,has a miss.I will be going to their house monday,i havent heard it yet.I guess it misses at idle as well as under power,they also said it dosent do it all the time.Any idead where i should start?Like i said i have not heard it yet.I will have my multi meter with me.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone - this seemed like a good place to post this...acquired my first Jeep (95 Cherokee) a few months back. One of the rear doors will not open from the outside....I read about the adjustment procedure using the allen wrench for the bolt at the edge of the door and spraying wd40 etc. I lubed it and cycled it 20 times and still no change. I did the procedure on both rear doors a few months back as they did not open when I first got it. Now this one seems to need more work. Where do I go from here?

Well the HP30 gives better pinion angles and clearance on the front drive shaft after you lift the jeep, and something to do with how power is applied to the ring gear on the HP30 I think.. LP 30 hangs low and you drag it across stuff, and its a pain in the *** to get the lp30 not to have vibes after lift..it can be done but its a pain..

Two main reasons (that I'm aware of):
The directionality of the gear cut determines how it's supposed to be used. Check this out:

Your rear axle is low pinion/standard cut. With the driveshaft and pinion entering from the front, when you're moving forwards the pinion is always pushing on the Drive side of the gear teeth. The front axle of course has to move in the same direction but the drive shaft comes in from the rear of the housing - so the gears are reverse cut. In a standard cut front axle, the pinion is usually pushing on the coast side of the teeth. This is a lot weaker.
The other reason the LPD30 sucks is because you lose clearance and the prop shaft angle is crappier, compared to the HPD30.
