That's actually wrong I believe .. You will need to swap your oil pressure and engine temp sending units. The dummy lights are only an on/off switch that turns on the light on the dash when a problem comes up, the gauge is a variable resistor unit. I'd recommend MOPAR sending units, they will ask you if you have dummy lights or gauges.

That's probably true for the pre-obdii motors, but his is not.
I'm open to being wrong, however.
Honestly it takes like 10 minutes to do the swap if you've never done it before, and probably 5-10 minutes after starting to verify gauges are working properly.
It might be possible to simply swap the mileage part of the clusters to keep everything correct. I know you aren't suppose to mess with that stuff but when I swapped my clusters I got the new one from a much newer vehicle with a big difference in mileage. I tried swapping just the mileage part and found the years weren't compatible bolt on wise. However I found it was possible to disassemble the numbered part of the mileage gauge so the numbers could be rolled forwards or backwards. (Illegal I know) Once it was taken apart enough by turning just the 1/10th wheel you could roll the miles. If you get your finger flicking fast enough you can knock off a mile a second! I would just hold it in my lap as I watched tv and kept spinning it. I think over the course of a week I added the 60,000 miles I needed. LOL

Only true for 96 and down. 97 up is direct swap. My 97 came with the dummy cluster and I put a regular cluster in 15000 miles ago. All is good.

Just for anyone who might wander in and see this, no, you can't do that on 97+ with the digital odometer lol.
You can reprogram it. Well, maybe not you but it can be reprogrammed.
I have a video save on YouTube about reprogramming and bench testing it. The software I like around 100 if I remember right, vs having someone else do it which cost around 200 to 300 and takes a week. You can even change the vin if you ever had a problem with a missed matched vin. Highly unlikely but possible.
