1984 nissan 720 c200 axle swap on a jeep xj?
I have a 1984 Nissan 720 with a crappy blown motor (or what is left of it..) Would i be able to put the rear axle in my 1984 jeep xj? I have a dana 35 low pinion the c200 from the 720 is also a low pinion. The nissan axle has 4.1 gear ratio i will probably re gear both of them to 4.56 or 4.88.I plan on running 15 inch rims on 33s or 32s. With a 4.5 inch lift. Or should I stick with the worst of the worst the dana 35? I would have to re gear and prob a new drive shaft. Would this be possible or what are my options i just want to get rid of the dana 35. Or should i run it til it breaks?

1984 jeep cherokee xj that i want to put the 720 axle on. 3 inch lift right now but just ordered a 4.5 inch long arm lift kit from rough country.
The crappy old dana 35. on the xj. has 2 or 2 1/2 inch diamter. I think the 720 is much stronger.

The Datsun axle is plenty strong but the wrong bolt pattern and width. Your D35 has bolt in axles unlike the newer c clipped axles and they tend to be a little stronger. While I'd still be a bit scared to run 33s hard on one lots of people do. They don't just explode as soon as you put a bigger tire on them like some people like to think. I ran 33s on a c-clipped version for years and yes I broke a couple of shafts but I was far from easy on it.

I just have it laying around and thought, what if.... but they don't have really any aftermarket support for them either which worries me to. What would you recommend keep the dana 35? or try to find an axle of some sort that will work?If so what type of axle? I'm just new to jeep xj's i bought my first one! The 84 in the pic. I'm swapping in my own drive train in it that's why i bought one of that year. People say 84s are junk but it keeps going wherever i point it, that is all that counts to me.

Ill junk the Nissan then. Then either do a Chrysler 8.25 or Dana 44 but I will prob go with the 8.25 cause they are easier to find than a Dana 44 for a Cherokee. I was thinking of doing the side mirrors but debating about doing it. It'll give it a 70 series land cruiser look to it.
