Normal for power loss with stock gears, for sure, but not THAT bad. On 31s in 1st it should maybe be like trying to start in 2nd... maybe 1.5th gear lol. Make sure your tuneup gear is fresh (plugs, wires, distributor cap and associated magic zapping revolving armature, fuel filter, etc) and you get the exhaust fixed, if the problem's still around then look into sensors etc.

i need to get front shocks for my '97 4" lifted XJ, i need em today tho & dont have time to order em so i have a couple questions.

im going to the junkyard anyway later, is there any other vehicle i can steal a slightly longer shock from that can be made to fit my xj?

as far as the JK shocks go, do the shocks have to be from a rubicon?

theres a few guys on the local craigslist selling used lift parts from TJ's & YJ's, would their shocks fit?

or how about upcountry v8 zj shocks? anything to get me thru the weekend

I'm shopping for a Cherokee and plan to tow it behind a motorhome part of the time. Are there any years or specific transfer cases I should avoid? I'm assuming i'll end up with a '97 or newer grand cherokee with an auto trans, but not sure yet. I'm new to Jeeps but in my chevy, i just put the TC in neutral and it's no problem.

Any advise is appreciated.
I tow a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with an automatic transmission and transfer case. I recently purchased a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee to replace. It is a 4x4 and has Quadra Trac II . As far as I know unless you plan to install a drive shaft disconnect, you need the 4x4 with transfer case to place in neutral to tow 4 down. I am not sure the Grand Cherokees had the Quadra Trac II past 2004. The Grand Cherokees are about 800 pounds heavier than the Cherokees and I like the style but they were not made after 2001.

can anyone help a brother out with this one?

Default 97 XJ cranks, no start

Need some help. I have a 97 XJ 4.0 AW4 that won’t start. It stalled once while driving a couple weeks ago, and I thought it was due to low gas. I put some gas in it, and then drove to my uncle’s to do some planned maintenance. We did the brakes, changed the front and rear diff oil, put on an aftermarket rear bumper, and it drove alright for a couple days, then started stalling again, while at idle and driving. After a few searches, I checked the battery and CPS, both bad, so replaced them and the TPS. Went for a short test drive and continued to stall.
Checked new CPS, bad, took it back and got a new one. Tested this one before installing it, cleared the codes, drove about 20m and it stalled again. Backed it up into my parking spot, turned off, and tried to see if there were any codes. Wouldn’t display any codes, even though I’ve never had problems getting 12 and 55 to display on my odometer and wouldn’t start.
Let it sit for a little while and it started. Turned it off, checked for codes and got 12 and 55. Checked the CPS and read ~5V across B and C with my ohmmeter, so it’s bad. Again. That was Tuesday. Since then it won’t start, just keeps cranking, and won’t display any codes. I also found out the fuel pump keeps going as long as the key is on, it doesn’t cut off after a few seconds.
I figure it’s a ground fault causing my troubles, but I suck at electrical. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I also plan on checking fuel pressure, but am more worried about the wiring.

I believe Dukie has a great write up for the process to trouble shoot a crank but no start problem in the write up section. I'm sure it will help. If not, you could pm him.

I've read it, but it's for no crank situations. Mine cranks and has a new battery. Starter was replaced in February.

Tj shocks will bolt up, my shocks are for a tj with 3.5-4 inch lift or an xj with4-5 inch lift. So if you find like a three inch lift tj shock you should be ok.

K, is it better to runhot &neg from battery. I have these prongs that plugs into fuse panel that allow me to run a hot wire from the panel then a dead write to battery neg. Which is better?

From the battery for the feed wire. The plugs on the fuse panel are low amp.

So I tried to remove my front bumper end cap. Climbed under and gave the drivers side bolts a poke. Nice! They aren't totally frozen! So I hit some PBBlaster, wait a min, and go for it. Spinny, no loosey. Stripped with like no effort. I tried wedging a screwdriver under the washer but wasn't enough room. Also tried pushing down on the bolt with some channel locks. Am I going to have to cut the head off?
