Hey I'm getting a strange sound coming from my transmission I know it's coming from my transmission because it only happens when I'm in gear. If I'm sitting in neutral and give it gas it won't do it. It sounds like it's sucking in air somewhere, it like whistles upon exceleration through all the gears. I already checked all the fluids and they were all good. It's really bothering me and worrying me. So any help would be greatly appreciated. I can try and take a video after school if that would help. Thanks.

What fluid are you using? Did you just get the jeep and is it your first truck? These trucks have fairly heavy duty transmissions, and a little gear mesh noise is not unusual, but I would call that more of a whine than a whistle.

A video would probably help

Yes it's my first jeep and I know the whine your talking about it's not that I'll try my best to get a video. It only started happening like a week ago. And I've driven it for months and it never did this. Fluid I can't remember but whatever the service manual told me put in. It's an automatic. I'll get a video asap.

If you are sitting in neutral and not moving and get no sound... then you are in gear moving and get the sound... could it be wind noise? Also possibly the differential fluid?

Could it be diff fluid? Cuz I did just change the fronts fluid and now that you say that it started right around that time. It's not wind noise cuz as soon as I let off the gas it stops and I'll still be moving at whatever speed I'm going. I took a freaking video but stupid YouTube is not working and I'm about to put my fist through the monitor. So yeah after work hopefully I can get the video posted up.

Mine did the same thing and it was my rear driveshaft at the SYE where you need to grease the fitting with a needle on the CV driveshaft. My driveshaft was becoming unbalanced then made more of a whining sound and it got louder. Went to local driveshaft shop and had it rebuilt and balanced for $120. Noise, whistle and whining, gone and I was sane again. Good luck, but try looking at that.

Trim trim trim! And get offset wheels or you are gonna rub like a mother

Or spend the little bit for a shackle and coil spacer budget boost AND still trim your fenders...

No problem. You can either get wheel spacers for your stock wheels OR get a lower numerical backspacing rim. Either way will make your tires stick out, but brings them farther out from the body and control arms. Stock backspace is 5.5, and I run 4.25, therefore my wheels stick out 1.25inch farther than normal

Trim, and use bumpstops. Offset wheels have the mounting location moved deeper into the wheel, so they stick out further. Backspacing is the measurement of how far the stick out. A smaller number means they stick out more, and a larger number moves them in toward the body. You'd probably want 3.75-4" those.
