XJ Ask the Question Thread
Sounds a bit high. Idle is supposed to be around 800rpm per the factory service manual.
Also IAC cannot be pushed in or out, it rotates in and out.
However...you are throwing a code for a lean mixture as well - meaning too much air is getting into the system unaccounted for. I'm betting you have a vacuum leak somewhere - which would also cause your higher idle speed. Inspect all the vacuum tubes and their connections thoroughly before proceeding.

also replaced the pvc elbow and grommet as the elbow broke. noticed that all the valve cover bolts were barely hand tight so I pulled it off, rtv'd the gasket surfaces, and tightened it back down. maybe the leak will stop now lol.
its idling around 820ish now and sounds good. hasnt thrown a code yet but I have a feeling the p0171 will come back as I can still smell some richness in the exhaust.
also found out the previous owner was a clown apparently as I have two different brands of spark plugs lol. he never pulled the a/c compressor out of the way to get better access at the #1 plug so he just left the damn thing.
did a compression test and a leakdown test as well since there's little lope in the idle and I wanted to check for burned exhaust valves as there was no exhaust manifold gasket on the truck and it was leaking horribly at #1.
the results make no sense to me:
leakdown: #1-16%, #2-26%, #3-13%, #4-16%
compression: #1-120psi, #2-130psi, #3-110psi, #4-118psi
you'd think the one with the most leakdown would have the lowest compression but its the damn opposite lol.

I found this at Wikipedia, it shed a little bit of light on leakdown testing;

This is for an XJ, but your ZJ will be extremely close.

ok so i have searched and read and found that when doing the hack and tap kit you have to get a fron drive shaft from an automatic xj and use that as a rear right? that is what i did, however what if you have a manual transmission?
i have the ax-15 and did the hack n tap and used the aw-4 front ds and its about 3 inches too short. am i missing something or did i just grab the wrong driveshaft.
my measurement measures to be right about 34.25" from center yoke to center yoke. can someone measure there auto front for me so i can know if i just dont have the right size shaft?
