XJ Ask the Question Thread
Hi all, new to this forum thing.
I have a 1992 cherokee larado, 4.0L, Automatic 4X4, all stock. Has lots of miles on it. I have been having trouble with it now for over 3 months. I have read everything I can find on line about these problems, so to make a long story short, I have replaced PCM,CPS,TPS,Fuel Pump, fuel filter, ignition coil, disteributor, rotor, cap, wires, plugs, battery,ba ttery cables, took the MAP off and cleaned it reinstalled. Unrealated, I replaced the valve cover gasket. Air filter is new I installed a fuel presure guage on the rail (a copy cat move from a forum paste). My pressure reads 31lbs constant before during and after the problem occurs. Problem...It will not stay running. It will die just like some one shut off the key,at any RPM in gear or not, going down the road or sitting in the driveway. After further reading I am looking now at the possibility of KNOCK SENSER, IAC, or re..replacing the cps. Anyone have any other ideas?

My dads xj had a similar issue. We thru parts at it like crazy. Then we dropped it off at his buddies shop. They ended up redoing the main ground and lowering the battery tray because the positive post was hitting the hood. It runs fine now. So I would recommended going over your wires and checking for continuity.

You'll break spiders/axles left and right driving that way on pavement. Drop in a lunchbox style locker and call it a day.
Thank you DieselD, I have spot checked the wire here and there, but have not yet gotten serious with it. I will check the ground though that is a good possibility.

Haunt drivin my jeep on the road in ages. The oil pressure was at 80 usually in my yard. Today drove it around for like 20 minutes. The oil pressure was slowly dropping the whole time. It was at 40 (half way) when I finally got back home. Is this a problem?
I have an 88 Cherokee and after replacing the ECU, distributor cap, ignition module, ignition switch, stator, fuel pump relay, starter relay and maybe a few more things it still WILL ONLY RUN IN THE START POSITION... Runs good as hell but being in the start position the starter wont cut off. ANY IDEAS???? I AM LOST AND CONFUSED!

My jeep is making a pop sound when I turn right..It only happens when I make a right turn or make a sharp right while driving. It kinda sounds like 2 pieces of medal clank together(pop)..It only pops 1 time-(while turning)- most of the time but I have heard it pop 2-3 times(only a couple of times)..My jeep just started making this poping sound in the last week or so..Does anybody have any ideal what is wrong with it? Thank you so much!

Easiest way is to have a friend sit in the driver seat with jeep on and turn the wheel left and right while you look at the steering components from the rack to the wheels look for areas of play. Start there, check all the bushings some of them may be bad. Steering gear box might be loose or mounting bolt broken. If you cant find an easy fix post your findings here. We will try and help you further.
