Then assuming your vacuum motor and system work as AMC/Jeep intended, your front driveshaft should not spin when in 2WD. The CAD acts like manual hubs. I wish Chrysler had retained that style axle for XJ's past '91. I kind of like having the ability to do 2-Lo and that extra cast iron makes the D30 stronger.

I replaced my heater Core and heater hoses about 6 months ago and my heat takes forever to get warm, if I let it run at idle, it won't even warm up until I start driving it, is there anything I can do to improve the heat?

Are you moving forward at least at 5 MPH? It's damn near impossible to engage when you're not moving.

Anyone know what kind of symptoms a 4.0L would experience if the header or header gasket is messed up? Right now, I have rough idle, surging when accelerating, I smell gas off and on, sometimes it idles higher than it's supposed to (1800-3000 RPM), etc. I've already swapped TPS, MAP sensor, O2 sensor, fuel pressure regulator, checked my grounds and cleaned out the throttle body. Got a Renix 4.0. Any of these symptoms sound like a header/gasket problem. If not, can anyone suggest what it could be? In dire need of help.

an easy way to test for cracks or gasket leak is to spray around the gasket and manifold with wd40, while it is running if there is a crack the you will notice a change at idle

I've trying to engage in neutral stopped.... So I should be in drive moving slow then try to pull the lever to 4wheel??

Yes, that should resolve your issue. It's an "on-the-fly" system, meaning it's optimal to be moving forward when attempting to engage into 4WD.
