could be an alignment but sounds like a bad pinion angle what parts were used for the lift ? if it wasnt aligned after the lift do that first

Ok then what years will swap over exactly? Bc I really don't wanna rip them apart I could if I have to but if I can find the absolute correct one then I'm gonna get that one. Ik it has to stay auto but any other years that would work perfectly?

Unfortunately, jeep has messed a lot with those input shafts, throwing parts according to availability of stock so there is no certainty. The novak guys have quite summarized the problem in the following writeup:

thanks
Your shaft is fine for the moment, it hasn't that much sense building a custom shaft right now since you are going to lift the jeep later on.

you need a NEW steering damper for the moment and then you want to investigate tire condition and steering linkage.

i'm not sure about the 242 but on the np231,aw4,c8.25 combination the length is 27 7/8". Any automatic, 8.25 rear axle drive shaft should work though i believe

There are two reverse torx bolts on the top of the transmission that are a PITA it get to. I believe the bolts are size E14. and no, a 12 point will not fit or work. Use about 3 feet of extensions with a wobbler and a ratchet. Good Luck

Stopped my 96 AW4 231 on the trail the other day to throw it in 4low from high.
Stopped on relatively level ground and had the brakes on (sway discoed if it matters maybe a tiny bit of flex happening) , threw the trans in N, slid the shifter firmly from hi past N to Low.
Let off brakes slowly to start rollin and BANG! Shook the whole ride it seemed.
I tried reshifting and letting off brakes and again BANG! Wife said it looked like the driver side wiper even jumped a bit lol.
Trans in N, Tossed 'er back in high (bit of a grind as almost usual) and drove out.

When I got back to pavement, everything worked fine but I did kind of roll in to low.

Was that just gears trying to engage from a stop or is something wrong?

I know these XJs make noises but don't know what normal is yet ya know?

I had a mini console in my 1996 auto XJ. I bought a center console from a 1994 auto XJ friend of mine had.
I removed the mini console easily. I'm having trouble getting the new one in. It seems that the "heat vents" right underneath the ash tray are in the way. I took out the ash tray and removed one screw from the center. I also removed one screw from the passenger side of these heater vents or ducts. It gets a little loose but I can't get it out. I don't want to pull too hard and break something.
should I remove this?
If yes how?

Default ABS retrofit

Quick question about ABS; I've read a few threads on the subject here before I joined the forum but once I joined it appears the search box doesn't like short words like "abs" so...

Anyway:

1996 Cherokee Sport WITH ABS -- malfunctioning more often than not but not always. Want to wheel this jeep and popular opinion in my small circle of XJ nuts is that "abs ain't no good for wheelers!"

1995 Cherokee Sport WITHOUT ABS -- A mechanic and fellow XJ nut owns this one. We had the two side by side today just for a comparison. Yes, the PV is certainly different but the MC and Booster look absolutely identical, even the way the first few inches of line is routed. He thought it would be as easy as getting the non-abs PV and bypassing the the ABS gear entirely.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

HELP
Went to tire shop to get front end aligned and wheels balanced and when the jeep was up on the rack the mechanic asked why i was getting it aligned because it already was (I had just aligned it 2 weekends ago)
so i started telling him i thought that was what was causing my death wobble and he said well let me get under here and check it all out and then he grabbed the track bar and it had a bunch of play so he told me to go get me a track bar and put it on so i did and talked the advance guys ten dollars down on the price of a new one and got it put on after a pain in the tail 5 hours of work and now the daeth wobble did not show up until i hit a big bump at 55 but on the highway i had it up to 80 with no vibes so now i dont know what to fix next??? Can anyone tell me another main cause for death wobble?

Try steering stablizer seen them go on cherokees before and one go on a 08 wrangler they did everything else to fix it then replaced that an it worked. Alot of money lost over something cheap. Good luck
