I have a Derale combo cooler in my Jeep. Trans and PS, no bypass. No issues

The cooler is a combo trans/PS unit. Would you: A) use it as is, adding a transmission cooler and PS cooler to the Jeep, or B) loop the PS cooler inline with the trans cooler to make one massive transmission cooler?

If A, advisable to add temp bypass valves to both setups? Thanks!

What year did you get that from?

I agree. Next year I might put in a new condenser and evap core. Thinking while I am there I might go for a tranny cooler. Not that I need one though. Really curious about how this will work out.

Ah hell y'all would ask me what year lol. Not sure specifically what range it was offered, but this one is from a 98 and is the same as what I have.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/322536803537

I will keep y'all posted on the install. Mounting it somewhere NOT in front of the rad and condenser. Spoiler: it will have a dedicated fan.

Is there any spec on how much backlash the steering box should have? Put in a reman steering box and it's pretty sloppy. I'm aware that a lot of these remans are bad out of the box but it would be nice to know just how much play is allowable. I'll be damned if I can remember what my original box felt like when it was still good.

I checked the '99 factory service manual and while it mentions "excessive play" it does not seem to define what that is. I'm pretty sure the XJ uses a Saginaw power steering box similar to what was used in a lot cars from the 1960s on. The rule of thumb we used to use on those was that excessive play would be considered anything over about an inch.

Play would hopefully be minimal on a freshly rebuilt steering box. To mention the bleeding obvious you'll want to make sure the play is in the box itself and not elsewhere in the steering linkage.

Default Temp gauge sensor

Just finished replacing a cracked head. The new head is off a 1998 cherokee and my cherokee is a 1996. After 1997 the location of the temp gauge sensor was moved and idk where or how to hook up sensor so my gauge works don't wanna end up with another cracked head. Can anyone help

They moved the sensor to the thermostat housing. You can get a late-model housing and extend the wires to use that port. You should be able to find more detailed instructions with a search if you need

Our 96's have two sensors. The one on the back of the head is for either the temp gauge or idiot light. The one on the t-stat housing sends info to the PCM. You need a post 96 t-stat housing and sensor. Extend the wires from the back of the head connection to the new sensor.

Are there any tips or tricks to seeing the atf level? My dipstick gets oil on it but I can hardly ever see a definitive line that tells me exactly where the level is.

I have to hold mine at an angle against the sun or another light source to identify where the shimmer stops, and I'm still not always confident
