I have not. I am really ignorant on the electrical side of things and don't have a ton of tools but checking that seems simple enough. I'll check it when I get off work, thanks.
Alright, I'm anticipating replacing it, sounds like it very well can be the problem.
Autozone has one for $30ish but is 2 inches short according to reviews, but works. Mopar has one for about $150 and is direct replacement. What would my brothers do?

Well guess what. When I went to the dealership the very part that he told me they "kept in stock" was in fact not "kept in stock." I didn't want to be jeepless for the 2 days it would take to get in so I bit the bullet and got a carquest part. It had the very same problem the reviews on the autozone part had: about 1.5 inches too short. I made it work but had to loosen the connector from the harness.

I wonder what could have caused the rotor and distributor to be corroded like that. May want to peek inside the new ones you installed to check condition.
Fuel tanks
Hi guys the petrol tank on my 95 4.0 XJ is really badly rusted, as is the lpg tank behind it and the tow bar. So 2 questions really: 1. Do Jeeps tend to rust more underneath at the rear? Bearing in mind I'm in the rainy UK and my jeep was parked up on a rural forecourt for 3 years - might have just been partially under a tree or something ...
And 2: I'm planning on buying a second hand fuel tank, painting it and adding some sort of protective layer. The only ones I see are for 97-01. Is it the same fuel tank? I.e. will a 97-01 fit my 95?
Cheers

Iirc 87-96 tanks are all the same.
A new tank from advanced auto would be $136 pn: 576-656 1 year warranty
Or a spectra one for the same price pn:jp2b 3 year warranty
Both include a new lock ring and gasket

So far after replacing the cps it has run fine.
This led me to another thought. How crucial is that part? It seems that it could be easily bypassed.
The tanks are different animals. Ones plastic and ones metal and the fuel pumps mount in different locations.

No, I don't lick fish.
Guys I need you worse than a dead man needs a coffin.
1999 XJ has intermittently died on me while idling but typically has cranked right back up. All gauges stay up, it just stops running. Hopped into jeep to go to church tonight and made it to the Road before it died and wont crank back up. No check engine light, no code violation (ran the key trick). I did run some techron last week that seemed to help.
Any ideas?
Edit: I think I found the problem
Replaced it with good ole Standard parts now it's running like a top.
But I still have a question.
Do I need to grease anything? I just slapped the cap and rotor on in a hurry but there's an autozone nearby if I need to do anything else.
LAST EDIT: I was wrong. Was going to go to autozone and now it will not start again. Back to square one.

If it were the CPS, it should throw a code on an OBDII Jeep.

I really doubt it. If anything, the controller will just demand more electricity to open itself up until it gets past the "sticking" point, shoot back too far and then surge on you.... but that's just conjecture. Doesn't take much to pull it, clean it, and put it back in though.

Check fuel pressure at the rail. You may have a bad fuel filter, pressure regulator, or the pump itself is going out. If the fuel pressure at the rail is good, the you can rule out a fuel problem.

DEFINITELY go with the MOPAR CPS. Check EBAY. A lot of times, chrysler/jeep dealerships will have NOS (New Old Stock) parts still sitting on the shelf and they want to get rid of them because they're trying to clear out room for inventory. I picked up a NOS sensor for 65 bucks shipped.

So far it's been firing up just fine.
I will check the fuel pressure though thanks.
I would not be shocked if I had problems there too.
What is this?
I think this is steaming and it doesn't look like it's in optimum condition anyway. But what is it? It's the thing with the hoses on next to the two bottles i'm talking about ...
