XJ Ask the Question Thread
You checked the OBD with your key?
If it's running fine and you have no codes all I can tell you what happened when my gas mileage dropped like yours. Twice in 9yrs. First time was plugs. Second time was o2 sensors.

Guys I need you worse than a dead man needs a coffin.
1999 XJ has intermittently died on me while idling but typically has cranked right back up. All gauges stay up, it just stops running. Hopped into jeep to go to church tonight and made it to the Road before it died and wont crank back up. No check engine light, no code violation (ran the key trick). I did run some techron last week that seemed to help.
Any ideas?
Edit: I think I found the problem

Replaced it with good ole Standard parts now it's running like a top.
But I still have a question.
Do I need to grease anything? I just slapped the cap and rotor on in a hurry but there's an autozone nearby if I need to do anything else.
LAST EDIT: I was wrong. Was going to go to autozone and now it will not start again. Back to square one.

Hey guys, going to have a week or two off of work coming up and want to work on my Cherokee.
I have a confirmed oil leak coming from my oil filter adapter and need to replace it. But I did just hit 150k on my 96 and was wondering if I'd be in the wrong to replace other gaskets while I'm at it. Oil pan, rear main seal, valve cover etc... opinions?

That being said there IS preventative maintenance, but I wouldn't go through the trouble of replacing gaskets that are functioning properly. A tune up is a different story. Plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires, oil change, coolant flush, etc.

I replaced the coil last night, fired right up. This morning, fired right up on the way to the gym. Hour and a half later, turns over fine but can't get it to run.
