i have a feeling it might be the pinion bearing like I'm experiencing. the pinion itself doesn't have any play and feels fine, but at some speeds i feel a rumble on deceleration and by removing the driveshafts & doing various tests i'm almost 100% positive it's the pinion bearing, which sucks to replace if that is your issue too

So with some google fu, youre right and I can just upgrade and have a tach! Ill have to swap oil and temp senders at some point, but hell I dont care too much.
AND, bonus, before I swap it, I can drop in all the LEDs!

Hi guys Danno160 here with a 1991 Cherokee having a lighting issue not long ago my dash lights quit working i thought no big deal i rarely drive after dark and the speedometer don't really work but this morning I found out I had no tail lights Iv'e checked the bulbs they are good so i checked the fuses they seem to be in order but still no power to the bulbs brake lights and turn signals work ok about a year ago i replaced the headlight switch with no problem till now i'm really not that good at chasing wires so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
I know there are alot of threads on this. So I know the best thing to do is check underneath the front end while someone turns the wheel.
With that being said, it sounds like it is emanating from the steering rack( more toward the firewall). Does that mean that the power steering gear box is the culprit? It only happens at 20mph and below and pops when turning the wheel.
Should I start by changing the worm wheel in the gear box? turn the screw or whatever?
Or should I buy a new power steering gear box? Am i even on the right path?
Im new on here and if anyone is in the southwest Georgia area it'd be really helpful to have someone help diagnose this. Im a new owner.
Thanks Travis

Could honestly be anything. Personal example:
My ex has been driving her WJ with a popping noise each time she changes direction. Couldn't find anything that was moving in the front end. Sounded like it was at the front passenger floorpan.
When it got worse, one day I noticed her axle-side track bar bolt was moving 1/8" back and forth each time. It's been slowly wallowing out that hole, and I couldn't tell it was moving at all when it started.

Is there a specific yr on the Grand Cherokee good to get?, it's not really going to be a DD, but do want to have fun with my friends in the mud, fire trials and snow, should i stick with a 6 cly or v8, help out a newbie.
