XJ Ask the Question Thread
OK,I solved my interior lights not working, but now I have 2 more semi related questions:
1, what the hell is a passing light?
2, in the rear hatch of my 96 se, I have a black button on the light. that button will not depress or do anything, so I was wondering if it was supposed to, and if there was a simple fix for it? I tried taking the light out and looking at it but after getting the rings off, I couldnt get the weird black plastic piece off the drivers side and ended up reassembling it.

#1 I have no idea but sounds like something Spiritual.
#2 That button, when it worked, allowed you to turn off both dome lights when the hatch is open. Mine died maybe 6mos ago. Haven't look real hard for a replacement but I am thinking of putting a toggle switch there.
My rear switch does nothing and theres no "open switch" like in the doors, so they dont come on at all with the rear door.

Possible dumb question alert: can I do a bastard pack without completely removing the leaf springs? Essentially just swapping in new leafs while leaving the one that's attached to the unibody in place?

IIRC some places require you to flash your high beams to signal when you are going to pass a vehicle. It is when you pull light stalk towards you and the headlights come on full power.

Awesome I'll be checking both of those this weekend. I'm also gonna be doing my first oil change in this jeep as I like to do that ASAP after buying a used vehicle just so I can keep tabs on it. I know there's a thousand threads on here about what oil to use but does anyone have any suggestions? It's got 148K miles on it and I'll be running a K&N oil filter. Thanks a lot![/QUOTE]
Any time.
As far as your oil and filter goes. The bigest recommendation and success on here comes by way of Rotella or Pennzoil. Despite the prior reputation of Pennzoil to clog up oil journals and sludge up motors, they've severely clean up their act and have one of the highest ppm of ZDDP levels of any oil out there. I've used 10w30 conventional Penn on mine since I bought it 5 years go and put at least 50k miles on it... valvetrain is sludge-free.
Recommended oil filter is WIX or Napa Gold (also wix). Genuine MOPAR filters are also good, but it has been questioned as to whether the MOPAR filters are Wally World are truly genuine or not.
FWIW, you can get CASES of WIX filters on Rockauto.com

OK, going down my list:
When pressing the gas from idle, the jeep shudders. Only when coming off idle, it feels like im in too high of a gear (even when not in gear).

So after starting it sputters til I start driving then it immediately feels sluggish it's like it won't shift up in gears no matter how hard you press on the gas it will make a clunking sound if you stay in the gas too hard, I usually let off the gas and problem subsides in about 20 seconds and the jeep will accelerate normally from that point on. If I park and turn it off and come back 10 mins later and start it again it does the same thing. Any suggestions on what the problem is I've debated whether or not it is the oxygen sensor I replaced it once about 70000 miles ago. It's a 1999 jeep Cherokee sport with a straight 6 4.0 L engine

I recently came across a fellow jeeper, he was running a 3.5" lift, didn't say what brand, and that he was experiencing death wobble. He said it was his spider gears?
Question being can some thing with the spider gears cause DW?

So, I'm getting into the Jeep world now, "Cherokee", been looking around and looking to buy a 90-92 Cherokee, besides the common wear that I know what to look for, what's consider high in milags for these cherokee? I know that the engines are bulletproof but hard to fine them under 180k mostly they are 215k+??? Please any suggestions are welcome.
