Is it true that the passenger door is the brains for the locks?

Anyone know why my ignition switch would start almost bottoming out before the contacts make connection to crank the Jeep? I turn the key to the start position and I have to turn it to the point where it won't turn anymore before the contacts make connection to crank it up.

It just started doing this. Is the spring wore out in the ignition cylinder? Anyone have this problem? If so, how do I fix it?

Thanks. Jeep is a 1998 Sport XJ

Plus if it breaks on the trail it's easy to Gerry rig and make locked or unlocked. They even sell a separate device you just screw in to be locked and remove to unlock.

Assuming it's the same as mine it's only about $35 and a couple screws to replace. It's dirt simple as long as you have a security #10 torx.

Is this the part that is going bad? Ignition starter switch?

So I changed my spark plugs and 02 sensors but my cherokee still smells like it's running really rich and today it too 3 extra cranks to start. Any suggestions?

Default 2001 jeep Cherokee upper and lower ball joints.

1. How can you tell if upper and lower ball joints need replacement?
2. I show 189,000 miles and I do not know if previous owner replaced the wheel bearings. How do you check wheel bearings, just by inspection?
3. I live in Arizona and my driver side electric window only works when the outside temperature reaches 110 F, then it works every time. I know it is an intermittent electrical/mechanical problem. Any suggestion?

That's the ignition switch, Yup. Assuming that's the bad part. I think the ignition lock cylinder can go bad too but that's a bit more expensive and a little harder to do. You can literally hotwire a jeep with a #2 Philips screwdriver and a #10 security torn in about 5 minutes...lol

How do you do that? In case the switch takes a total dump on me and I can't get my Jeep started.

If my 1999 XJ tends to get hotter (too hot) while idling in traffic is it likely to be the fan clutch?
If so what should I replace it with?
