1989 XJ.

Whilst doing rust repair I came across where the previous owner rigged the taillight wiring harness, its a real mess. What model-year harness will fit this truck? There is a wrecking yard not too far away that has 5 XJs of various years, hoping one of them would fit.


Specifically: The left-rear just above the fuel-filler, right in that rear corner. The part in question goes from the connector to the rear - towards the taillights. That block-connector has maybe 20 wires going through it. Some of the wires were cut and spliced and some don't even connect, just hangin'.

 

Wiring up power to my ZJ seats. I'm still learning with wiring things. do I still need to go through and do the the relay/fuse for it?

 

Always should have a fuse, closer to the battery the better. Now size that's the next question...

You could do one to ACC power if you don't want to be able to adjust the seats unless the key is in? I think usually you can adjust power seats when when the key isn't in though so no relay for that.

 

k, so far I plan on going from battery to 20 amp fuse to power seats with 14 AWG wire. Anybody know what size fuse should I use for the heated seats?

 

I will also run two different wires for the powers seats and heated seats.

 

I'd use the same size fuses for both circuits that were installed in the donor Grand

 

k, I know a 20 amp was used in the donor grand for the power seats. I'll have to look up the heated seats

 

Now I'm thinking about just skipping the heated seats all together. I've read a number of story's about the elements known for gong out on the older Chrysler seats. Anybody else had this problem? I don't wan to wire them up if they will just not work or will break shortly after.

 

For me, heated seats would be the whole point of the swap. If you're worried about that, there are aftermarket heating elements of various materials and prices

 

Another question: My '99 XJ has the same weird idle that my '96 ZJ has. A while ago someone recommend I clean the IAC to fix it. I cleaned the one on the XJ but it still does the same thing. (The XJ sounds like it's snoring...lol)

 

got a video of the sound under the hood? It's kind of hard to hear.

 

For those of you that have quick disconnects, where to you hang yours up and what do you use? (Zip ties, bungie cords, gum, ect.)
