Here's a guide for doing the NP231 to NP242 swap, towards the end it has info for dealing with the dash lights:

Could a leak in a vacuum line cause it to rev up to the max?

We both looked at the exhaust manifold and intake manifold and it appears to be seated properly. The Fuel injectors and properly seated and no leaks.

Could it be just a vacuum leak.

The line that goes from the valve cover to the intake manifold has a crack in the cover where it attaches to the manifold.

I was hoping for someone elses opinion also..
Any line attached to manifold should be crack-free.
Since you hear leak at rear of engine, I'm not sure what else it could be other than intake, the MAP sensor is mounted on firewall but should be obvious if there is an issue, have a look at its vacuum line anyway.

When I installed my intake it was on the pins, when I tightened the first bolt it angled the manifold unevenly causing it to bind on pins. It was not noticeable and tightening the remaining bolts did not correct the alignment. I figured this out after disassembling again.
Are you using a new gasket?

The first gen 84-86 was only designed to support the AMC inline 4 and the GM V6. The front clip had to be lengthened in 87 to accommodate the inline 6.

I've seen several XJs with the V6, the front looks identical. They modfied the firewall to accomodate the 4.0L

Default Track-Lock Rear-end

I have a 1999 I just bought and am going to change the differential fluid. Book says to add friction modifier if it is a Track-Lock differential. How do I know without pulling off the access cover and seeing actual clutches? Just trying to prevent an extra trip to the parts store.

Sticker in the glove box or factory build sheet will tip you off as to what the thing shipped with. No guarantee that the original axle is on there (unless you're the original owner) or that the clutches even have any material left.

That said - just buy a gear oil that already has the additive in it. It says on the bottle. A lot of synthetics come with it already.

Exclamation Sound while turning right.

Hi all, I hope someone could help me with this please. My 2001 Cherokee just had the front end done, outside u-joints replaced with cv joints, new wheel bearings, new spider gears, new axels, replaced transfer case, everything else removed and inspected. When Turning right like into a driveway it makes a rubbing/grinding type noise. shop had jeep in for 4 weeks and can not figure it out. they said everything seems to check ok and tight. anyone have any ideas that would help. Thanks for all input. Oh yea I am mechanically dumb so I have no clue what so ever.

Is there anywhere in this corner that a small coolant leak could be hiding? The main hose looks ok and the radiator looks almost brand new except the bottom edge.

I'm guessing radiator but really don't want to have to replace it already...

hey guys tonight i got into my xj after work and noticed my passenger side blinker was blinking really fast in the front and back and on the gauge cluster. All day its been ok and has never given me this problem before. Would it be just a bad bulb or relay or fuse since its happening in front and rear?
