I heard they get a lot better sound quality and that if you dont get an aftermarket stereo head unit, then you have the risk of damaging your speakers because of not enough power coming from the stock stereo or atleast it sounds bad with a stock stereo turned up loud, is any of that true?

Aftermarket is def a better quality, the radios have more power which in turn make better sound at higher volumes, factory radios lack power for aftermarket speakers, therefore when turned up it sounds bad causing speakers to clip, that is bad on speakers

Have you read the response you got in this thread?
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/he...0/#post1038834

Your higher NOX levels will probably return to their previous levels after you burn through this tank of gas. In one of your other posts, you stated that you had gotten the NOX levels down to 1147. What level is passing in your state?

In the above mentioned post, you can see there are quite a few things that can cause high NOX levels. Getting your codes read is the first thing you should do. In your first thread, you said you have a '91 Cherokee, and that your "key switch doesnt blink", which sounds like your Check Engine Light (CEL) might be malfunctioning. Do you have an AutoZone nearby? I believe they'll check the codes for free at most of their locations.

Default Why am I different?

Looking at a new air intake I just noticed that my stock setup seems to be different from anything else I can find on the web.
What's up with the second airbox on top of the throttle body? Anyone know what it's for? Says Chrysler on it so I guess it should have come with the car.
Cherokee is a 96.

I had a JVC in an old truck of mine. I only spent about $100, had a pre-amp output on it. I ran it to 2 sets of components, and to a cheap amp & sub setup.. It did me fine for 4+ years until I sold the truck. If it suits your needs and the price is right, I say go for it!

I'm not sure if you're in the US or not, but you must you have a European Spec Cherokee. That box on top of the intake is a resonator. IMO it serves no useful purpose an can be removed and replaced with the stadard intake tube if you desire.

That's what I have, one of the older Arsenal Series head units. I love it - plenty of power and works great.

Ahem, so they basically put a muffler on my intake system?
I'm in Sweden yes.

My thought is it must act as sort of an air heater since it's right on top of the engine. Which makes little sense seeing how crowded and hot the engine compartment is even without it.

I'm going to have a look inside to see what's in there.

Thanks,
D

no, it's to quiet down the intake noise. EU countries are weird with their requirements for that stuff. The only thing you'll find in there is maybe some baffles.

So yes, it's basically a muffler for the intake system.
