How bout the coolant system itself? What's been done to ensure proper function of water pump, tstat, fan clutch, radiator.. Got a fan shroud?

3rd question is where did you get the right hand drive electric fan and shroud?
I've been hunting all over the internet looking for one.

This is what I've been running for the past few years -- http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1035194. I'm not sure how well it would hold up to 100+ degree weather, since I've never tested it in those conditions. It would probably work okay with a good dual-core radiator. I'm using the stock single-core no problem in mid-90s weather, sometimes the temp will creep up enough to turn on the secondary fan if I get stuck in traffic.

There are a lot of cars that come with dual-electric fans from the factory. There's no magic to it, just avoid aftermarket crap.

Default white smoke

Dear all,
I need urgent help. I just bought a second hand grand cherokee 2007. it lets white smoke out of the exhaust pipe. This happens after it was off for a longtime. It will some come for 3 to 4 miles and when i drive fast it stops but will come back if I let the car stopped with engine running. I am talking about a lot of white smoke. It comes and goes. Can anybody help? you can also feel the the engine shakes a little bit.

People use this argument a lot, but those cars are designed to use two electric fans. The XJ's radiator barely handles its duties when the cooling system is functioning 100%.

Yes, many people have converted to full electric cooling, but many others have tried and found failure after failure before going back to mechanical or worse, damaging their engine.

Most electric fans can't come anywhere near the CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating of the stock mechanical fan. I've never seen the stock fan be inadequate, except when the fan clutch needs to be replaced (which is due about once every 15-20 years).

The only times I see an electric fan conversion as necessary are as follows:
1) Performance build, trying to steal every available horsepower.
2) Routine deep water crossings. The e-fan has the advantage of being turned off so it doesn't spin the blades while submerged.

I've never had a submergence problem with my clutch fan in the Comanche or the Wrangler, and they've both had water over the hood.

Is there a,fuse/relay for the neutral safety switch? The PO cut the NSS wire. wouldn't that make the check engine light come on? And yes, the check engine light bulb does work.

1999 power window regulator.

I disassembled and was going to do the cotter pin trick but mine is broken differently.

Here is the part that most people talk about breaking. Still in good shape. XJ Ask the Question Thread-image-4066552568.jpg This is the issue, my "worm screw" is disconnected from the motor. The plastic cover over it has broken off and the worm cable was floating free in the door.

XJ Ask the Question Thread-image-1468338574.jpg

Can the motor/regulator be repaired so the worm cable stays where it needs to, or am I SOL and need to buy a new regulator?

Many people have done it successfully, too.

Avoid cheap aftermarket crap. Most is not all.

The only times I see an electric fan conversion as necessary are as follows:
1) Performance build, trying to steal every available horsepower.
2) Routine deep water crossings. The e-fan has the advantage of being turned off so it doesn't spin the blades while submerged.
3) Turn it on when you want, to help cool transmission or refrigerant or whatever
4) Optimize the cooling characteristics with custom electronics, IE change activation temperature, manipulate individual cooling systems (evacuate exhaust heat on-demand), and so forth

For most people the stock mechanical setup is perfectly fine. For people who want something more, there are legitimate, proven, viable options for dual-electric. Somebody asks they should be given the information instead of told they don't know what they are doing.

Why? Do you realize how many people come on this site and have never used a hand tool before? The majority of CF membership is novices who often don't know what they need. It's rare for us to get a new member who has mechanical and electrical experience, and most of them are still new to the XJ platform.

When somebody asks about fundamentally changing an aspect of their vehicle's function, I think it's not only reasonable, but RESPONSIBLE, for us to find out their intentions.

We really don't need more half-finished scrap heaps or rolling fire hazards in our community, and the easiest way I've found to prevent it is to understand what a user is trying to accomplish.

Do you think we should withhold information about lifts and steering?

I think we should answer people's questions, show them what's involved, and let them decide if they are capable and willing, or not.

I've had excellent dealings with Classic 2 Current (c2cfabrication.com)

They may have what you need

If they ask what size lift to get, I ask their intentions. If they ask about a particularly tall lift, I ask why.

I'm here to help people fix problems and determine their needs. I don't care if you install a 20" lift and six electric fans, as long as you do it right. I care that it's safe and you don't put in all that time, money, and effort just to be dissatisfied with the result.

This really isn't the place for petty bickering, so I'm gonna go back to helping the users who ask for help.
