Like wonderboy said, you should upgrade your shafts depending your wheeling style

Default Larger Wheels or Tires

I am debating between going to a 17" tire/wheel combo or getting larger diameter tires on 15" wheels.

Which do you think would be better?

17" is way more common now, all the trucks and SUVs come with 17" as standard or option, 15" is getting to be specialty size for some of it. I mean you can find 32" tire for a 17" wheel but not for 15" wheel

On what kind of terrain? Do you plan to air down your tires for better traction?

32" is a dying tire size anyway. All the major manufacturers still sell in 15" wheel sizes, up to at least a 33" tire. Most go up to 37" on 15" wheels.

It is nearly gone from production vehicles, but there is still a huge aftermarket demand for XXxXXx15 tires

Moderate at best, it's kinda a dd. Work gives me a vehicle to use, so it doesn't see much use unless my wife's car were to breakdown or she is out with her car and I need to go somewhere on weekends.
I've been saying this since I got the jeep about 5 yrs ago, I'm planing on a 3"ish lift, the wheeling I do is a little of everything some mud because that's what my dad enjoys, I like to climb steep hills personally.
