Hang on. So with the engine up to temperature, you cannot get it in gear with it running? Does it go into gear with the engine shut off?

Trying to rule out a clutch that isn't letting go completely.

How long has that oil been in there?

Goes into gear when engine warm, but when engine gets up to 210* you really have to push it into gear. Not all the time but most. It doesn't grind, just resistance like maybe clutch isn't engaging correctly.

I have had to shut it off to get it into 1st gear before.

Oil has only been in there about three weeks. I noticed this condition maybe a couple of times before the trans fluid was changed. Which makes me think new slave cyl issue or problem with trans fluid.

The clutch pedal seems to have less "travel" before it is engaging when this is happening. Will try to get with previous owner to see what fluid he was running.

Thanks for the help trying to figure this out.
Eric

Yeah I'd definitely turn my attention towards the hydraulics.

I think I might of found my "Knocking" sound that happens while driving.

The rear bush holder at the lower right control arm is not fixed to the arm any more, i can move the control arm side to side on the bush holder

Stock control arms? Not sure the age of your rig but I would consider replacing all 4 control arms and the bushings on top of axle.

Its a 1995 XJ Limited running stock from what I can tell. Only had it 8 weeks and apart from a quick look today is the first real time I've spent on it.

I will but I can't at the moment due to budget restraints, I've found I need new sway bar bushes aswell.

Fathers day comes in handy after all, never new that before I own'd a Jeep

I was thinking of some of the times that the shifting has really gotten tough.

Towing my son's dead F150 with tow strap.
Pulling 12' landscape trailer with wooden playset on it.
Running the A/C when driving in town when its 90* + out.
In town driving with lots of traffic and shifting.

It seems that the clutch was really getting a workout. When back on the road and lots less shifting it seems to straighten up. I think a new slave cyl is now at the top of the list.

Thanks again, Eric

I need to replace the hub assemblies on my 1999 Cherokee. I know there is a difference of hub type that changed in 1999.5. Is there any way that I can tell which ones I need to order by taking the wheel off ?

Thanks.
The difference is the length of lug studs to accomodate the thickness off different types of brake rotors. Measure the lug stud, or just figure out which type of rotors you've got.

Or, if you need new brakes as well, buy matching unit bearings and rotors at the same time!

I wanna get 30 inch tires on my stock xj but i cant put them on myself and there isnt a tire store around that wont put them on because they arent the stock size (because if anything happens they dont wanna be sued). Can anyone give me any help on how you get a shop to put large tires on a stock xj or point me to a shop that does.
Im in the Twin Cities if you need to know.
