Do I need just a recharge or does this indicate something else?
Anyone?

If you do need a recharge, it means you have a leak somewhere. A dye test would answer that question

Okay so I did some looking but couldn't find what I was looking for. I have a 2000 xj. Just noticed yesterday I got a knock in my engine and it don't sound to healthy. I know there's a few things it could be. But is there anything in these 4.0s that are known to go bad that I should look at first before I rip and tear into it??

Look into the 0331 heads on 2000-2001 engines.

I recently went through the vacume lines and all the vents are working. I guess I'll take it somewhere and have the pressure tested.

Default AW4 Transmission

I have a '92 XJ 4x4 with an AW4 transmission that is pretty much toast ; it's attached to a NP231 transfer case that seems okay. My question is: Would an AW4 from a later model XJ ('93-'01) fit and function with no trouble? Also, would I be able to swap the NP231 transfer case for the NP242 with no trouble?

Any knowledge or insight is appreciated, thank you.

U can use aw4 transmissions up to '96. Newer aw4 would require modifications to make it work.

I know somebody who swapped a '99 aw4 into a 95 drivetrain. He swapped the extension tailhousing with wiring on it along with a collar that sits on the tailshaft.

So this wound up being my problem. The CAT was fried. I replaced the CAT with a Flowmaster high flow CAT and the Muffler with a Flowmaster Super 44. I also installed a new O2 sensor. I knew the second I started the jeep that the problem had been resolved. It is performing better in every way. Thnx for the solid advice.
