XJ Ask the Question Thread
Not really a cherokee specific question, but I just put MT/Rs on my xj a month or so ago and I'm seeing some concerning wear. I haven't done any hardcore wheeling yet, and my driving is probably half pavement half gravel roads. What do you guys think of these chunks missing from the lugs? Anyone else had similar problems with these tires? Maybe I'm just being picky but I feel like they shouldnt be doing that

Weird starting issue. So on a cold start, the engine starts right up just fine. But when the engine is warmed it turns over a couple times before it will start and sometimes I have to pump the gas a little bit. For example, If I've been driving for a while and stop to get gas, it won't start as quickly once I've turned the engine off to pump gas. Any thoughts? Maybe a fuel injection issue or a clogged fuel pump?
I've got some hood vents I've been meaning to install. I'll give that a shot. Thanks

Use the brake and the gas at same time. Works wonders!
No disagreement, just understanding. An auto locker will make using Full-Time on the street/rain/snow obsolete. That is what FullTime is for. PartTime is for offroad.
Spline count in axles is the axle shafts, where they mate to the carrier (differential).

Ok. I 'thought' I had read somewhere on the forum that an autolocker on the rear and selectable up front would still allow the 242 to function normally, but now I think I'll save my pennies and go selectable at both ends. Thanks for explaining. Is there any way to determine spline count with out tearing things apart? '00 Limited with Dana 30 and Chry 8.25.
Thanks again.

My axles both have Detroit TrueTrac limited slip, but I don't have any trail time to test them yet. I like limited slip for cost and ability to drive in snow/ice.
If you're willing to invest in the axles, you can't beat selectable lockers. Your options there are air, cable, or electric. I'm a big fan of Ox cable lockers, and I'd like to eventually install them on my rig
I like my Yukon zip locker up front. It's pneumatic operated, but I heard great things about Eaton's E-locker and the ox locker too.
1987 cherokee 5 speed straight 6....for a while now Ive had overheating issues the radiator was old and leaky so over the weekend I replaced the radiator, resivour bottle, thermostat and did a system flush. Its still overheating! what other things should I check/replace? I know that the electric fan is working fine. I also have no idea what the temp is since all I have are dummy lights on the dash. So I installed a temp gauge but it doesnt work =/ so once I get a new one Ill be able to see exactly how hot it is but for now i know its higher then normal.

this was after everything was changed.

that picture I took yesterday it was just sitting while I was trying to figure out the gauge problem. but normally when im driving its above 15mph. When I get to where im going the coolant is usually boiling in the bottle or its blowing off steam like in the picture. I try not to drive it much till I can get it figured out.
