guessing based on what you wrote: the loud click is probably the starter solenoid engaging but not spinning the starter motor, and the grinding is probably the starter drive gear rubbing on the flexplate because its not retracting when solenoid is deactivated. probably needs a new starter motor.
I dont think the starter was engaging at first because it was a super loud click and wouldnt start. But $150 for a starter? Can I drive it for a week until I get a new one or ?
HI, this is my first post. I'm 18 and just bought a 01 cherokee with a 4" skyjacker lift and I want to install a new 4.5 re short arm lift and do I sye. This is my first vehicle and I am starting on the bottom with learning about suspension and drivetrain setup. I saw a really good write up on sye but now I can't find it. Can someone point me to it. I've searched for it but still could'nt find it. I'm researching exactly what a sye is and the different options. I think it has the original rear drive shaft. From the center of rear wheel to fender is 21". 4 litre with manual trans and 231 tc I believe. If someone could point me to that write up I would really apreciate it!! Sorry if I didn't post this in the right place.
Long story short version. 97 xj shut down on hwy, got towed off. thought it was the crank sensor" replaced it". Checked distributor, Whole shaft gone! "replaced it". Timed to TDC manually. While driving frequent sputtering. I'm told there is a sync problem between the cam and crank sensors. Diagnostics cannot pin point the problem. I'm told different opinions by various mechanics. There could be a short in my engine harness. My Question is How can a harness short out for this situation? And should I just have my whole harness replaced? Rather than being raped by a mechanic charging 105$ an hour labor to look for a short. Does anyone have a solution that can help me. Please!

Cam sensor might need alignment if the engine is old or beat
got an issue with my '93 xj/country. heats up almost to red area on gauge.
if I can stay moving, all is well. stopping starts heat up.
the radiator is new. stat is new. hoses are new. coolant is new.
could it be fan clutch... how do U test it ? or the rad. cap?
any ideas?

Also the clutch is a regular wear item. There are ways to test it. The safest and cheapest is to try to spin the fan with the engine off and cold. It should only just move a little before stopping. It's about due for a 1993!

I have to take back my fitment issues complaint in regard to this NAPA / Spectra radiator.
I didn't realize I had to remove the rubber mounts on my old radiator! Dohhh. Now its working great.

Okay then I must have the dreaded D35.

Are these really that bad, assuming that I'm not doing the lift and huge tire thing and doing hard off-roading?
Mostly the Jeep is going to be used for getting out of and into our rural neighborhood (gravel/dirt roads) in all weathers, and maybe someday a camping trip off the beaten track. I've never yet had any trouble with the 10 bolt Chevy rear end that's supposed to be so weak in half ton pickups/suburbans.

The Jeep does have a trailer package (receiver/ball mount/harness/adapter).
