So my XJ died on me while driving yesterday. Luckily I just got off the highway.
Wipers stopped working, radio went out, engine shut down, power steering shut down.
Everything else was okay (headlights, tail lights, gauge lights).

I pulled over, turned the ignition off, and started her back up with no problems.

I'm concerned it might happen again, where should I start looking for the cause?

 

Technically yes maybe but you will spend 300x as much time doing it and risk damaging your axle. Parts stores will "rent" (pay deposit) on slide hammers. Job takes like ten minutes once you figure out how the tool goes together. One of the few times I set out to do something on my rusty Heep where I was surprised at how easy it was instead of taking all day!

 

99 Sport 4WD. Got new transmission lines in and noticed that when I put on the (rubber covered) metal retaining clip at the front of the oil pan on passenger side, one of the t'mission lines gets snugged up to and touching the bottom of one of the oil pan bolts (maybe 4 or 5" back from that clip). Otherwise, no clip, no prob.
I don't know if this occurred with the old line, and I'm not sure if it's cause for concern. Presumably, those are both non-moving parts but I wasn't sure if the line would appreciate a hot oil pan bolt directly on it.
I've tried bending that retaining clip in a way that will hold the lines without pulling them up so high, but the clip is too short to do that. Might be able to configure 2 clips for more clearance although the lines offer little play without force, or thought about slipping a small piece of conduit around the lines where that bolt is, but I'm guessing conduit would melt.
So..LINE + BOLT - problem/concern?

Depends. '98 was a split year, so early ones get 703s (EV1) and later ones get 784s (EV6). You probably need 703s.

there's none. That's why it always say it's low. LOL

Wow, I walk away for a second to grab a beer. I have an 01. Forgot to mention before. I filled her up fully before an still says low. First time its ever happened lol

 

Wonder how the sensor works. Wonder if it could get clogged or dirty and throw a false reading. Doubt it's the same as my Renix though so I can't really help ya there..

 

What starter will fit on my xj? Besides ones from other xj's, will any other jeep starters fit it? Xj parts are scarce near me, but other jeep parts are plentiful
