Late again.
I don't have a button in the rear dome just the two in the front "map light" buttons

Maybe you don't have that feature. Is yours a strippo model?

On my 1996 it does not. There is no door plunger switch to activate it. Have to push the button on the dome light (that button likes to burn out).

The rear cargo light,if the switch is in the on position,is activated by the hatch latch. When the rear cargo light button is in the off position opening the front doors (wish the back doors to but....)still lets both dome lights come on.

That explains it, switch in the latch, thank you for clarifying. I was looking for a door plunger like in my 1991.
My dome light button is toast so I get no lights when opening hatch.

No problem.

Luckily I've had no problems with that rear dome switch. I use it a good bit to. Working out of the back I'll turn it off. I'm sure it would take a good while to drain the battery but at times the hatch is open for a few hours.

It's faster than you might think if your battery has some time under its belt. I killed my XJ like that once

2yr old battery but still ain't taking any chances. Besides those dome units get hot which can't be good.

Would a faulty CPS cause gauges to work intermittently/give the 'no bus' message? Currently it won't start and yesterday it started to bog under throttle and didn't want to start after doing so. It hesitates in top gear when you try to accelerate and when you go WOT it hits about 3500 rpm and starts to backfire and acts like its at rev limiter. Of you back off gas a bit it will smooth out. I really need a scan tool and a fuel pressure gauge..

Oh yeah! On an unrelated note, my buddy said that my flashers came on when I put my left blinker on yesterday. It didn't do it the first time I used em, but the second time after driving for a while it did. Don't think it does it using right blinker also think only rear ones come on. Could be wrong on that. Thoughts?

I use LED panels in all the map lights and footwells ($1.50 each). Two panels in the cargo light. They do not get hot and put off a bright white light, not yellow like the stock bulbs.
What does get hot is the capacitor (or whatever the small silver cylinder is) under dash on driver side.

Try pressing the light itself. Newer models the switch is hidden behind the whole assembly and you mash the entire thing in.

Dunno about your year but the only thing that comes through the floor in that area that I can think of is the fuel pump.

Has anyone had issues with the 2" wheel spacers? For example ball joints, wheel bearings, etc.? I just put 2" spacers on mine using 16x8" wheels.
