XJ Ask the Question Thread
Hi, I know there has been lots of discussion on various problems with power windows, locks, etc... but I was not able to find anything that lined up with my situation.
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic and one day I could no longer control anything from the driver side control unit. Specifically, I can no longer operate any of the windows, the power locks don't work, nor can I adjust the side view mirrors. This happened all at once, not intermittent.
Other observations:
Could the whole control unit be dead? Are there fuses I should check that I am not aware of? Any advice would help. I am a novice so please keep replies easy to understand and give detailed explanations of anything very technical. The most advanced thing I have done so far is replaced the flasher relay.
Thanks!

Other observations:
- all fuses located on the main board on the passenger side are fine
- briefly checked wiring in door jamb and it looked okay
- power windows do not work from any door
- power lock control from passenger side still works
- the small green light is not present in any of the switches except for the one that controls power locks from the passenger side (I hope this makes sense)
- no other electrical issues

No. There are no downsides to 5W30 vs 10W30, and haven't been for the last 30 or 40 years.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have a tech question. My 88 Cherokee Ltd. w/auto trans. has slipping feel when starting trans. in "D" gear. However, when I manually shift to "L" to start moving it doesn't slip. I then shift to 2nd then to D and it works OK. Reverse works fine. Fluid level is within limits. Has been changed recently and smells normal. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks

What was it changed with? As soon as the warranty dropped on Cherokees Chrysler declared that their own in-house fluid, that meets none of the actual manufacturer's specifications ( well I suppose they're both transmission fluids), should be used because it's cheaper for Chrysler. As a result many of the parts counters dingbats give out ATF+4, same thing for oil service places. The transmission should be filled with Dexron III/Mercon (D/M). Slipping after fluid change is extremely common when this happens.

I was driving up a hill earlier today and the Jeep wasn't wanting to go... then it started stuttering a bit. Like almost bucking, but not quite. It's making me a bit worried that the transmission is starting to go. The shifts have been a bit rough and slow lately, as well as the weird RPM climb then immediate drop that I experienced the other day. Any ideas? No CEL or anything..
