Default Axles

I have a '96 XJ, and my question is about the axles. I know that the rear is the Chrysler 8.25. I had the local Jeep dealer run my vin, and for the front axle the info says it is a 230mm. They couldn't tell me for sure if I have a Dana30 or 35. Any thoughts? Also, did Jeep ever use Dana 44's under the XJ? If so, what years? Would an axle from a wrangler fit? Thanks for any help.

All 4x4 XJs and MJs had D30 front axles. Yours is high pinion, and it had the stronger u-joints which began in '95.

One from a TJ will bolt in, but it'd be low pinion. They use XJ axles as upgrades.

I'm looking at getting a Trail Master 3" lift, with new leaf springs and new lower control arms. It runs about $580. Anybody have exp. with this kit, or is there a better kit for comparable price? Wanting to fit maybe 33's. Will 3" be enough, since I'm also looking at cut-out fender flares?

Or it could just be because its a older vehicle and the motor mounts arent brand new. My 96 shook more than my 98 but my 98 had way less miles and I figured out that the motor mounts in the 96 were dry.

Is your jeep OBDII? If you think its missing, plug it in. Misses usually put out a code or throw the CEL.

With cut-out flares 33s will looks nice on 3".

I would recommend not getting TrailMaster. Look into Zone offroad. They have good quality, cheap kits.

So replaced my factory track bar today. Broke a pickle fork in the process but got the old one off. Went to install the new one and the axel side bolt decided to cross thread into the flange nut.

Anyone know what bolt and kind of nut i should pick up in the morning to replace it? I've got a Lowes and an Ace hardware that are pretty well stocked all the time. I had to borrow my buddies Ranger to get to work tonight. Ick.

It probably is the mounts and the way to test is have someone mash the gas and you watch the motor.and see how it reacts, so to speak. I doubted it was misfiring but a good steam clean always feels fresh

The motor does twist when at high rpm I noticed that yesterday.

Have you ever done plugs, wires, cap, and rotor?

Snugged up the intake manifold bolts?

Cleaned the throttle body and IAC?

If they're anywhere near new, they had to be gapped wrong or they're "miracle" spark plugs.
